Show us your FSU II: Beauties from Behind the Iron Curtain

I am hosting my images on ziforums.com, in the gallery. 1024x1024 and 1MByte per image is allowed. Open the image in the gallery, and cut and paste the provided web address here in the post.

You can also post them in the gallery here. In my RFF gallery I have an album dedicated to pictures hosted solely for inclusion into a thread.

Eventually Stephen will zap them if gallery space runs out, but that can happen on other forums as well. Nothing short of your own webspace will protect you from that.

For some reason, beauty and Iron Curtain shouldn't be used in the same sentence. It conjures up memories of Mrs. Brezhnev.

While I couldn't find any photos of his wife (as I remember, she wasn't photogenic), I did find these:

I miss the Evil Empire, detente and Jerry Ford falling down the stairs.

This is my FED2 with Jupiter9 and 85mm-Finder.

Gotta love those Zorki 4 cameras!

1962 Zorki 4 ($16.95 from Ohio)

1957 Zorki 4 ($25.00 from Siberia)

The one that got away on Evil Bay - I think the winning bid was over $260! I quit bidding at $50.

I kept the 1957 and 1962 models because of the events that took in those two years. The '62 is by far the best shooter.

Beyond inane political humour: a FED-2 which gets a fair bit of use (works well with the wideangle), and a Zorki-5 I keep for sentimental reasons.

Hi Jay,

Nice as well. Do you collect Chinese cameras?

Thanks Philip. I wouldn't say collect at this point, since there are too few yet, perhaps 'accumulate' is a better description for now. :) I also shoot with them.

There's one not in the picture, a Seagull 120 folding camera. Still in the process of fixing it...have "gone" in Chinese cameras too. Restored 4 Shanghai Leica copies so far.

Two Ukrainian beauties clad in brown animal skin: 1935 FED-1 NKVD in vegetable tanned goat skin, and a 1976 Kiev 4a in brown lizard skin.

Hi all!

Hi all!

Since this is my first post ever on this forum, hi everyone! Contributing with a pic of my very first FSU camera. Got it from Ebay a week ago or so. Thanks to Wolf3012´s excellent CLA-guide for the 4K it´s in close to perfect condition. From another guide somewhere I found out how to CLA the J-8 as well. So now both items are in full working order and is an absolute joy to use.

This is my new and first FSU camera. So far I am having a blast using it. I came from large format photography so the weight is a nice change.

My grandfather said that the early Kievs where made on German equipment and mostly from German parts taken from Zeiss factory after WWII and were very expensive and desirable cameras. You could buy a decent soviet car for the price of RF KIEV. Today it would be equivalent to smth around 15 000$ hmmm who thinks M9 is expensive ;-)?

This is my Fed 2 which sucessfully sucked me into the whole Rangefinder thing. It's now fitted with an Orion 15 28mm lens and monster 28mm viewfinder. Very good bright image on a FSU but a bit bulky at times.

Got my Kiev 4M with Helios 103 today.

Everything is working, only the long times are alittle bit slow.

Even the meter moves.

And she is a beauty for a song from eBay.
