My Konica I

My Konica I

Here is my Konica I. It is a slightly later serial number than Raid's. Mine has the Hexanon lens instead of the Hexar. The case I have is an earlier vintage than my camera. The case is marked "Made in occupied Japan". I also have the tiny Walz filter to fit the Hexanon.

Getting the shutter working on all speeds on this camera was a real challenge. It is now very reliable.

I had one of these a while back and gave it away. It was in good working condition, but somwhow I never took any photos with it. Do you have any pics you took with this camera you can post? I wonder how this lens performs.

These are photos taken with the Konica II, which has the 50/2.8 lens that is on Steve's Konica I. Development was done commercially, so bear this in mind.

Hello Krosya,

I just finished my first film in the Konica I today. I know this is not going to be a very good roll because I opened the back of the camera to check wind on and I metered for 200 speed film when it was loaded with 100! Now I will tape film info on the back like Raid does.

If I get anything presentable I will post it.

Raid, Thanks for the link to your Konica pictures. You have a beautiful family. I know you like these cameras so I thought you might be interested in seeing my Konica I.

My Konica I needs a CLA to clean the film advance knob and mechanism. When I advance the film, it is difficult at times to know when to stop turning the knob. When it works well, the film advance stops at some point to let you know the film has been sufficiently advanced.

Just wondering, is noone else afraid for the lives of their beautiful hexars? I gaffered mine the moment i got my hands on it. The lens cap is awful though, my bad 🙄

My one and only Konica. I love the C35EF3, and it looks so damn good in red too. This thing's given me some great results.

Actually, I lie about it being my only Konica. I also have a little P&S, a blue EUmini. Some day I'll actually put a roll through it...

I'd be a bit more concerned about the residue from all that tape than I would about a few random nicks and scratches. Both my Hexars have gotten fairly heavy use for over six years (and show it, mostly in the way of brassing–or whatever the titanium/stainless-steel equivalent of "brassing" is–of the shutter-release collar/mode switch), but the finish of these cameras is actually pretty hardy.

In short, they've "been around." But then, so have I.

The one on the right is a 50 f/2 M-Hex with a third-party screw-on metal hood, courtesy of That Auction Site. The built-in hood is effective in terms of flare-reduction, but not so hot in terms of impact-protection. The screw-on hood affords the same protection as the 28's hood.

Yep...not impossible to find, but a touch challenging. In the name of giving you a leg up, this is the search you want to make.

Edit: Unhelpfully, a number of eBay sellers there don't bother to give thread diameter at all, or don't give it in mm, which, IMO, is a serious PITA. Insist on mm measurements, or it's no-go.

Haha yeah it scared me the first time i did it as well, but don't worry, the tape ain't ordinary tape. It's high quality gaffer tape that leaves little or no residue. It will be cleaned off easily with a damp cloth.

The tape is used in the film industry to tape stuff to walls/floors and most surfaces. Since they move their equipment quite abit, they need gaffer as it doesn't leave the tape glue when you peel it off.
