I've being thinking bout re-leathering my m8 but i would like to see some pictures first.
it would be also nice to see some brass in a black m8. I really like the beat up style

I don't know that you'll see brassing on an anodized body. As I understand, the shells are a zinc alloy, which is then anodized.
If you want brassing, you have to buy a black paint body (extra $$$), and I thought it would have the classical vulcanite-like covering, not that horrid covering on the M8.
As soon as my M8 warranty expires, I'm ripping off the covering and applying Levant leather.

Hi Gustav!
I am working with FSU cameras and never tried a leica: but recently I have re-leathered my Kiev 4 with the stuff bought from Aki Asahi.
I have not a picture, but I can assure that the result is great: the leather quality is excellent and the cost is reasonable. In the site of Aki Asahi (search for it on the web) you can see some sample pictures. Hope it helps.

Here is mine. Did the releathering a couple months ago with a cameraleather kit.
The black dot came from Robert. I don't know why the "M8" has been blacked out. The camera's previous owner apparently thought it was more stealthy that way.

How did the CameraLeather kit fit?

My M8's been re-covered too, but the new one is the same as the old one so no need for a picture. When I sent it for the shutter-frames-screen upgrade I sent Leica an e-mail that I'd pay an additional $100 for them to put on the fake vulcanite cover instead of a new original one, but they declined. Given both covers probably cost Leica the same, and they had to replace my cover anyway, to my way of thinking it would've been a win-win. I bet they would've sold ten times the # of re-coverings@ $100/ea as they did @ $330, turning a much greater profit on volume vs margin, even without considering how much they lost each time they replaced an original cover @ N/C. But Leica has their own unique take on business.

Very well. Installation was very easy. Just give yourself some time and don't rush things. I love this covering - makes is much easier to grip the camera.

Yes it is.

Why wait?
I've used Levant on some cameras but once it was on, I wasn't really enamored with it. I prefer Vulcanette C.
I'll post photos tomorrow of an M8 black dot anti-panda with that covering.

I second Robert on the Levant. On a Black camera it is quite flat and rather boring, but smells great.
It may be fine if your M8 is Chrome.

I did griptac on an M3 with great results but the template was a hair undersized.

Luigi Crescenzi provided the only 're-leathering' my M8 will ever need. After two years hard use (including much horseback riding or mountain biking in dust, rain, snow and mud) the camera remains almost pristine and the Luigi case has matured from its original burnt gold 'Rally' colour to dark brown, almost black in places. It is battered and scratched and looks all the more beautiful for it. Its every mark would otherwise have been damage to the M8.
Luigi cases are very expensive, but they're a rare example of handmade craftsmanship. Better still, they're designed by a man who deeply understands how a Leica rangefinder is actually used. Thus a Luigi case is a fully functional component and the best weatherproofing and body-armour a Leica is ever likely to wear.
