O.K., I give. This is my favorite 35mm camera and lives in my bookbag lately. Serves the purpose, considering I can't carry more in the way of a camera.
The rig takes pretty nice shots, but I sure wish it was smaller yet. A 35mm RF is outside my budget for the foreseeable future, and a digital one even more so.

Get a CLA'd Kiev 4A or 4AM, Zorki 4 or 4K or even a FED 2 or 3 and a hand-held meter. Should not be too expensive and a good FSU rangefinder is a fairly reliable shooter. Glass is not expensive either and generally quite good optically.Bryce said:A 35mm RF is outside my budget for the foreseeable future, and a digital one even more so.

Love to use the KX, its a great camera to have to do with.
Why did you sell it, if I where you I would have bought a new KX.

I like my KX, and the lens on it is wonderful. Just kinda bulky as schoolbag camera, when it has to fit in there with all those books...
So I made things sound much worse than I meant to!
Hans Voralberg-
You sold your KX off? Why? To me its the best of the Pentax K line, being really simple and having all the features I personally care about! I've noticed they're selling rather cheap lately, like maybe even less than a Zorki would cost. The more desirable lenses are still holding value, though.
Dr. Strangelove-
I bought a FED 3 a few years ago and REALLY didn't like it. Unfortunately, mine came complete with a pinhole in the shutter; attempts to fix it with "Liquid Electrical Tape" failed, and I gave up on it. The lens also had problems (I-61), like a weird lump on an element. The thing seemed on the verge of self destruction otherwise anyway, so I've given up on the FSU cameras. Maybe it was just a poor example, but it left a poor taste in my mouth. Besides, old Pentax gear is put together really well. So I'm spoiled!

Bryce,
I am expecting in the mail an MX with lens and winder. It is maybe similar to your KX. I also have a Spotmatic F, Spotmatic, ME Super and ME super Program.

I've never actually seen an MX, but used to have an ME super. The MX is sort of a cross between the ME Super and the KX; It uses the same teeny frame as the ME, but with the full mechanical shutter of the K series bodies. I'm sure you'll be happy with it, as well as the lenses!

Bryce,
This is good to know. I have several SMC screwmount lenses but a very limited set of K-mount lenses: 50mm/2.0 and 17mm/4.0. My K-mount lenses are M lenses and not A lenses, so my Super Program cannot be used in Program.
I do have the wonderful 85mm/1.8 lens in screwmount.

I love small sized cameras, so this is a big plus for the MX.
I bought an MX that recently was overhauled by Pentax for $325.
Shouldn't be shabby at all.

sitemistic said:$325??!! To overhaul? Wow, what are MX's going for these days?
The chrome ones go for $125-$150 and the black ones for more.
The seller of the MX claims that he gotthe camera from someone who just paid $325 for an overhaul by Pentax. I hope he is truthful.

I had a mint MX that I adored. One day when walking thu a door with the camera hanging from its strap over my shoulder I accidentally bumped the camera on the door frame. It was a pretty pathetic bump - it would hardly qualify for the title of bump. In fact it was more of a slight graze. But it still left a nasty little dent in the prism housing. These smaller SLRs (M series Pentax and Olympus Om-1/Om-2) were renowned for being much more lightly built than th larger cameras like Nikon. GO LIGHTLY with them! Apart from that they are a marvel.

Frank,
The black FT looks great. I have a chrome one. Half frame cameras has a certain charm tothem, don't they.

A few minutes ago, I bought online a Pentax 40mm/2.8 pancake lens for my recently purchased MX. This combo should be cool.

The SL35 is not too bad,and it is the most reliable model maybe, except the SL350. The lenses are so superb that it pays to take such a risk. There are many people selling their SL35 cameras all the time, so there are back-up cameras available. I have two spare part cameras or three maybe and two working SL35 bodies.
