I bought this for $20 at a local 59-minute photo. The owner is selling all of his film cameras, there are a few others that I am thinking about picking up, among them a Minolta X-700, a Zeiss Ikon Contaflex, and a Koni Omega Rapid M.
If you ever find a Contax or Yashica with the original covering intact, you can see why they used it, it feels so nice in the hands. But they really weren't thinking of longevity when they chose it.
99 cent bargain off of ebay! I can't believe nobody else bid. Unfortunately, and not unexpectedly it doesn't work completely. The frame counter is jammed and won't reset, and the slow speeds don't work.
For some reason the leading curtain does have enough force to work the long shutter speed escapement, and I didn't want to keep cranking up the spring tension since the shutter speeds seemed right on. Nothing seemed to be binding and I cleaned and even resorted to oiling the escapement to try and get something to work. Oh well.
On the up side the viewfinder is crystal clear, and unlike other prakticas I have had - very bright! So I might end up using it anyway.
