i never knew my dad had this camera until he randomly pulled it out a couple of weeks ago. it is mine now of course 😀
lovely Zeiss glass, really has a look to it. before having this camera i was only using M42 SLRs with maybe the 7 element Super Takumar 50/1.4 being my 'best' lens. Of course i am amazed by the Zeiss lenses. One can for sure tell a difference in the photos.

The last model of the Contax/Pentacon camera, from around 1960. This takes automatic diaphragm M42 lenses, and has a split image rangefinder in the viewfinder. It needed a little attention, but now it's in nice working condition. Not bad for 66 years old.

Canon R, fitted with a Konica macro lens.

There's a nice thread about underrated lenses but this for me is one of Nikons most least talked about Cameras, lovely dressed in Black as well.

The FG is definitely under-rated. It has that amazing during exposure closed-loop light metering with Ai lenses, the same as the FA. But it weighs 490g. Delightful.

Plus the Exp Comp button and the handy sometimes Audio Warning makes it quick and a joy to use and I like the fact it's not much bigger than an OM2, it really is delightful indeed.

I have 2 FGs. One black and one silver. Great small SLRs. I also had an FG-20 which I regret I sold.

I've had an FG-20 on my shopping list for a while along with an FM10 but can't seem to catch one at the right price but I'm in no rush!

The FG was quite an innovative step for Nikon at the time and surprised it doesn't get spoken about a lot more but think the EM took the stage!

I have an EM as well but I much prefer the FGs.

This is one of the cameras I lusted after for decades. Unfortunately the shutter needs new curtains, so it's become a long-term repair project. The build quality is not the best which has made disassembly a huge PITA, but it's a fairly simple mechanism so repair is doable with a lot of patience. I've got a roll film back and a cut film back and pack film back for it!

You're not alone in your infatuation! I've always loved the look of these. And the most practical feature? You'll never lose a lens cap!
