Sincere apologies for the late response Colton - I just saw this.

I really like the 35-70mm. It's a nice little lens and handles very well, with a few quirks - takes a while to get used to the zoom direction, for instance, but then of course it makes a lot of sense. Incredible technology to shrink and parallax-correct the finder as you zoom. It could be a tad faster I guess but then I really like that it is so compact. Image quality is of course ridiculous and the zoom range covers pretty much what I always use (OK sometimes 28 and 90). I'm thinking of taking this lens on a photo trip to Boston, NY and LA I'll be making in September, although I think I'll have to carry the 28mm and 35mm as well - I just love those lenses and they're so compact it doesn't really matter. I'd like to say, too, Colton, that you've provided great inspiration with the 35mm. I'm not sure why it has to be so expensive compared to the others, but worth every cent - still an absolute bargain compared to other quality lenses like Summicrons.

The 35-70 looks like it would be a sweet lens to have. That's a great range.
If only I could use a viewfinder and operate a zoom.
I love the 35/2 though...

I recently received a 35mm f2 - this is from my first outing with it. A lovely little lens.
 
I have too many film cameras, and I cannot justify a G2 or G1 with....2 lens....

I'm meeting the tech director who was in charge of the G1 and G2 design (as well as Contax 645--yum!) next week.

Any questions for him?

Here are some on my list:

- why did Kyrocera decide not to include DOF markings on the G lenses?
- what were some of the limitations o the zoom finder that made it be so dinky? What were the internal conversations about the size of the VF?
- what ere the plans to expand the system, had it flourished?

anything on your minds?

IMHO, for what it is, the Contax G2 is near perfect.

Well, how about this:

What might he know (or think/feel) about a digital resurrection of the G body--pertinent to the hordes of those of us adapting G lenses on Fuji, Sony, etc?

This is very trivial, but:

What did he consider the weakest part of the mechanics? By which I mean not the design, but the finished product.

I raise the latter question because although I have a perfectly good G1, when I bought a seemingly perfectly good G2 recently, it failed after 5 shots (no shutter release, no lens motor operating, though the RF/AF was still functional in calculating distance).

What an incredible opportunity! Please congratulate him from, I'm sure, all of us on a staggering accomplishment in producing such technologically advanced, yet sweet to use cameras and lenses.

I'd be interested to know something about what he feels are the best ways to ensure the extant cameras are able to be kept going for as long as possible. Aside from looking after them and servicing things that are possible to service (CLAs etc) is there some way that we can ensure there is access to whatever spare parts etc might still exist, or are they just going to disappear with the sands of time.

I recently tried shooting Lomo Color 800 in 35mm. I usually don't use high speed film and generally prefer ISO 100 film or 400 at the fastest. That being said, I'm fairly impressed with this film.
