I like these. And I note the top and bottom right-hand corners are knocked off a bit.

I've just run four films through my newly repaired Voigtlander Bessa 1 and notice too that the corners of each shot aren't quite square.

I'll post my best shots as soon as I've scanned them. But is the "not square corners" a feature of using folding cameras? Or of using Voigtlanders? Or is there something wrong with my camera!?

Cheers

Almost all photos were cropped a bit back in the old days, so it was not considered critical. You may not have noticed but your viewfinder probably shows about 10% less than the full negative.

However, it does kind of look like you may have a bit of dust caught in the corners there.

Thanks Tom. I reckoned it was probably that. BTW the B&W photos weren't mine. I was just admiring them.

Here's one of mine, taken at Scarista, Isle of Harris, looking north to Traigh Mhor and the north Harris mountains.

Taken with a Voigtlander Bessa 1, Vaskar 105mm f4.5, Fuji Provia 100, July 2012. Not a RF, but I did use a Watameter accessory finder!

Still working out how best to scan medium format slides.

So where is this?? Beautiful!

The are taken whilst walking the "Coledale Horseshoe" above the village of Braithwaite near Keswick in the English Lake District National Park. In the background of the top picture you can see the Helvellyn range, Helvellyn being one of the four 3000ft peaks of England.

The rough edge down the left hand side was worse before I glued all the fibres of the bellows down.

Vasile sells cheap shutter testers, with the schemas that are freely available everywhere on the WWW. But, for those less skilled with the soldering iron, it is an excellent option. I own two of his devices. Took a bit until he shipped them, but nothing important unless you're in a hurry (and probably if you contact him directly he can speed up the process)

His ebay name is vfmoto
Thanks for that jnoir :) It looks good.

Hi Thomas,

I wonder if the bright areas at top-right of your bicycle picture are actually from very minor light leaks--or processing artefacts--rather than flare? At least to my untrained eye, I wouldn't be sure which it is. Have you got bright areas of similar shape and location on any other pictures in this roll that you did not post? (It would be hard to tell with the first picture you posted, as the analogous area of the frame might be in the nearly-white sky.)

Agreed on the quality of the lens. I've got the same on my 531/2 of same vintage (about 1937).

Very sad about Sandra Keller, by the way. Only 25 years old!

Hello Dave,

it might be a light leak, as I obeserved a similar bright spot on a secound picture from the same roll, but it had some backlight:

Yesterday I developed a second roll where I don't see this kind of spot (at the negatives), but I still have to scan it.

That does look like a light leak, and especially suspicious since it's the same "7" (or triangle?) shape as appeared on your bicycle picture, in same place and orientation (accounting, of course, for the one pic being horizontal and the other vertical). I would think it's a small hole that could be sealed. I painted up the leak in my 531/2 with Jacquard Textile Color fabric paint, in black of course. It worked well and has stayed light-tight for one year so far. I assume most fabric paints are similar; you needn't use that exact product from the hilariously named Rupert, Gibbon, and Spider, Inc. (located in California) although they do claim it's sold in Koeln. Of course, if you want to maintain your camera in anatomically correct, pristine collector condition, you should instead find replacement original Zeiss bellows from the 1930s (good luck :D), but if you want a serviceable shooter, the paint is a very cheap, quick solution.

By the way, I like the picture, aside from the light leak!

Thank you Dave!

I am going to do a flashlight test to identify possible light leaks next weekend.

Here are another two photos taken with the Bessa 1, Vaskar f4.5 105mm on Fuji Provia 100.

The first is the Clach Steinigeadh standing stone at Scarista, Isle of Harris, looking north.

The second is Luskentyre on the west coast of Harris, looking north from Seilebost.

Indeed there is a small leak at the upper left corner at the third outer folding (from the film plane) of the bellows.

Thank you for the hint, Dave!

Great! That is, great in the sense of knowing what the problem is (instead of a mystery) and finding that it is small, not major. Good luck with the repairs. After a little bit of fabric paint or whatever other fix you might choose, this will be a good shooter.
