Sample from a Zenobia with cracked lens

Sample from a Zenobia with cracked lens

Here's a shot with my recent acquisition, a Zenobia C1 from around 1952 with a dirty lens and stuck focusing helix. In repairing/cleaning, I actually cracked the second element. After repairing it with some UV cement, I actually have a pretty usable camera. Here's a sample - the 4-element Hesper lens is really not too bad, even with a crack!

I thought I had already posted some of the results from my shooting several weeks ago near Christmas-time. Apparently not.

Washington Monument in Washington, DC, USA. Super Ikonta C (531/2) with Tessar; Portra 160 film. Developed at a lab; scanned by me on Epson V700.

Nice to see the monument back in good condition again after the 2011 earthquake.

I must say... this is over my expectation ...
Love this little camera

There are some truly inspiring images in this gallery! Hope you don’t mind that I break protocol and also post a photo of the camera that took the shot. It’s my 1908 Kodak 3A Folding Pocket, and I believe just about the most beautiful camera I’ve ever used.

The brass fittings at the lens and the wood trim on the side rails raise this machine to a level of sophistication and beauty you rarely get to see and use. It is 106 years old and you can still get a decent photo out of it. Although you can see from the scratches it's a bit hard on the film.
