As title says..
Well, people try to sell them for a lot... but do they actually sell at those prices? Hmmm, my research says yes. Wow! (Ebay sold prices: $438 - $750) I got a Limited Edition Ricoh GR brand new for $613 recently.

The GR1v is a different animal though, you can get a GR1s for much less. Which GRD though, you're not comparing against an older GRD 3 or 4 are you ?

Film cameras are naturally sexy, digital ones ... I can't lust at pneumatic nailer.

They are enticing! But they do scare me with regards to serviceability.

Yo Dude, let's keep it PG-13 here please!
Back OT, people just see no reason to sell them, the old film ones are that good.

i've also seen some newer GR selling for the same price as the GR1s.
I've thought about buying a GR1s or GR1v before but the VF is just so small and this would mean it will be exclusively used as candid P&S camera with poorly framed images for me, plus 28mm is not really my ideal FL
So it clicked me that I might as well embrace digital for this type of shooting and am happy with the GR.

No way, that's pretty expensive. I wouldn't pay 700-800$ for a GR1v

Film cameras retain their value, specially cult cameras like the Ricohs.
I for sure would pay more for the film GR1v, but I'm not into digital so...

Geez, when I think about the 450$ I paid a few years ago, I thought that was a premium over the GR1s price

Privilege to be first to discover fading LCD costs money....pity, of course, that capable cameras are let down by failing electronics. Sure, they can be used without fully operational screen if all else works.

My GR1s screens (both in the viewfinder and on top of the camera) finally stop functioning. But I still use the camera and it kept working.
Say, where can I send this camera to replace the LCD? Criscam.com no longer list GR1 film in their repair list.

Haha you guys are quite funny!
Well, it's just shower thoughts and hope you gets can just randomly output.
Film gears retains the value better, I do agree, but.. I mean GR-1 series, not so strong in build quality, even suffering a lot of problems like the LCD bleaching, comparing to the new bloody brilliant GR digital, worth it/ the risk?
Oh I forgot, it's FF vs APSC, haha!
@jsrockit you are so lucky... $613 for a limited GR..
@Lauffray Yeah the new GR, I consider the improvement of the 1v form 1s are quite essential to me sometimes.. and I would like to buy a relatively new one, since lots of GR-1s got the light-seal problem, LCD fading etc..
@shadowfox long time ago I read the blog of Japanese camera hunters, said they could get them fixed, not sure how it goes now.

bought a GR1v here on the forum a few months back for $450. Good deals can be found and those little GR1vs are sweet little cameras. Brought mine to a wedding a week or so back and kept it in my suit coat. If not the photographer of a wedding It's always nice to have a little point and shoot at those times.

Yes, I've owned both and I prefer the GR1v. Though I've had the LCD problem with the 1v as well
Are you talking about Bellamy Hunt aka Japan Camera Hunter ? He's a trustworthy guy, I'd shoot him an email about service in Japan

Well, I'm not even trying to do the all-time debating film vs digital comparison at all..
However, the build-in BW preset in GR digital is quite impressive
