Shutter sound - Leica M4 vs Pentax K5

The Pentax K5 has received some interest lately, for its compact size, good image quality (for a digital), and its quiet shutter. Just for fun I've recorded a comparison with my M4. Here's the plot of the noise, with duration from left to right and sound volume on the vertical scale. Reading from the left, the first spike is the M4, the second is the Pentax, the third (with three little spikes) is recocking the shutter on the M4, the fourth is the M4 shutter again, and so on.

According to this the M4 is louder. The K5 is a little quieter but the duration of the shutter sound is longer.

Is there anywhere I can host an MP3 file, if people want to listen to it?

One thing I absolutely love about my M4 is the shutter sound..it's sexy.😀
Just curious, did u have a film in the M4? IMO, a loaded M definitely sounds quieter..

When I played with the K5, I thought it was slightly quieter than my old M6 (as far as my memory serves me anyways).... wish my D700 had this shutter.

That's a good question Dan. I can't remember that now, but probably not. Good point! I did have similar lenses on both cameras.
