sigh! dropped my Canon EF 28, doesn't focus any more...

Hi,
I think there's noting to do, but:
I've just bonked my Canon EF 28 2,8, it was just a 30cm fall, but id doesn't autofocus or focus anymore (I turn the focus ring, it's stiff, and nothing moves...).
It's a cheap but fine lens to me, I used it on my EOS 300d as "normal" lens.

Anybody knows if there's something I can try? Just hoping this lens has a known... something... a screw... something to adjust... sigh...:bang:

Ouch, sorry no idea about fixes.

I once dropped my EF28/1.8 from a chair to a wooden dance floor, it then rolled about 5m across the dance floor. Luckily there weren't any dancers at the time. Still works fine.

Sometimes a motor inside gets jammed from the impact. Try to switch to manual focus and try to carefully turn the focus ring. Force it, but a little and careful. Sometimes that can "un-jam" the inner parts that get stuck.
Maybe worth a try.

Thanks for all the reply. I tried and in manual focus the ring turns, but it's stiff and nothing else moves. I'll try againg wiggling it, however.

OT: Anybody has the sigma 30 1.4? Would you suggest it?

(months ago a kid dropped my Hexar AF form the table to the floor, not even the paint was damaged... sigh...)

I am one of those people who have scratched a hole in their head trying to figure out why canon's non L lens build is so poor as I have now seen 3 50 1.4's go bad and many of the consumer zooms die as well. Anyho....I dont suggest the sigma, its big, its ugly, it renders pictures ugly (but then again IMHO all sigma's render poor) and it is not the greatest lens for the money in my opinion. I highly suggest the canon 28 1.8 which I found to be a very nice lens to use and quite capable on the 20D and 5D. Its a little pricey but well worth it in my opinion as its the best all rounder for a crop camera for the money.

They might comp you a repair if you don't shoot yourself in the foot with your story.

Too bad I bought the lens used on evilBay (it was quite a deal) so it's not covered by warranty...

oh, well, maybe it's time to try that cheap 50 1,8 canon sells...
