I had hoped to save it but have been told it would be uneconomical to rescue the little blighter- sand in the lens mechanism apparently isn't good for cameras, looking at upwards of £80 so not sure if it's entirely worth it.

I now have a leica c lux 2 which I'm very happy with in the digital realm but would like a fairly cheap film camera to go alongside it.

(I already own a holga :p)

any particular reccomendations?
 
has anyone ever used those russian copy things? could get some interesting results?...

They tend to be either very good or very bad, with not much in the middle. Depends on how the quality control people were feeling that particular day. Generally speaking, FSU cameras are best bought by those able to work on them.
