Sighted: A Real Film Camera Used by a Real Person

if you follow Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion", you'd know why that is interesting here in Minnesota.

"...the women are strong, the men are good looking, and all the children are above average."

Somebody should add a line about the Contax and Leica users of Lake Wobegone--if it is such a perfect town there ought to be more than a few archaic film-burning cameras around!

I enjoy all "media".

Today I shot my F5 (Reala 100) and D70. Tomorrow it's my R2S (probably with Velvia).

The only limitations are the ones we place on ourselves! 😀

lol -- what I was actually referring to is the stoic behaviour in general. Saying "handsome" is too much display of emotion! It's different from "that's different".

The other day (I live in a town fast becoming a tourist mecca, Oh, wobegone!) a middle-aged guy looked at my camera (black Bessa R mit 35/2.5) and said "Ah ha! A Leica wannabe."

That he knew what a Leica was and had an idea of what it looked like got him off the hook. Then he smiled broadly, patted me on the shoulder, and removed from his jacket pocket a Bessa L.

I would prefer the women to be good looking rather than strong!

When I go into one of the big downtown photography stores in Halifax to buy film for my QL17 the sales guys behind the counter often comment on how it is a great camera, they used to have one and enjoyed using it, etc. . . . then they turn to the next customer and try to sell them a $1200 consumer DSLR with 18-80mm f/5.6 zoom. Follow the $$$ I suppose!

Here in Europe, I've noticed a number of people using film cameras. They are either in their early twenties or late sixties, and mostly have an AE-1 or an F-something-or-other. Occasionally, you'll see a guy with a black M6/M7/MP. No-one here in Germany seems to use anything older, 'cause the prices on used M2/3/4/5 are so high, they just sit in store windows collecting dust. 🙁

When I was in Prague, I ran into a Korean girl with a brand-new silver Bessa L and CV25. I tried to ask her about her the camera, but she didn't speak English (and I don't speak Korean), so our conversation was rather short... 🙄
