Sigma 35mm f1.4 for Nikon $699.99

That's £430 UK pounds and the cheapest listed here in the UK is at £639, life is not fair.
Mind you that's well down from intro price at £800.

Is it really that good? Doesn't Nikon offer something comparable?

Nikon offers a comparable lens, and my understanding is -- it's just that -- comparable, other than better weather sealing. So, nearly $1000 more ($1619) for something that's just comparable doesn't make much sense for me.

However, in the end, I passed on the lightning deal. I have had some bad luck with the lack of consistency in Sigma's products, and my understanding is that this lens is no different, and I don't feel like potentially going through several samples (and paying return shipping fees) just to get a good copy.

The Nikon is about the same size and its only positive difference is weather sealing. On a full frame body the Sigma is noticeably sharper than the Nikon lens. Nikon's 35 f/1.4 is getting a bit long in the tooth, and it shows on their newer cameras.

I had the Sigma 35 f/1.4 and it truly is a spectacular lens. It's built very well. Its only real downside was the ribbed rubber grip to the focus barrel, which collected dust very quickly.
