They had them at my local Lowes home improvement store.

I tried it out this weekend and it work great: perfect height and when I put it down in mud or water, I just wash it off. No more dirt inside my leg locking mechanism.

It looks like it might be a good height for a TLR with WLF (waist-level finder), which is how I mostly use my tripod.

Exactly, that's the point: you can make it custom so it has exactly the length you need it. Then you just swing the legs open until the chain stop them, tighten the knobs and you are ready to shoot. Fastest tripod I ever had, the lightest, sturdiest, and easiest to clean.

Best wood to use is Ash. Second best is oak. Make certain the wood for the legs is Not quarter sawn.
