The best camera is one that still works!
But only here in Oz ... WTF?
I discovered by chance that Sigma have a web shop here in Oz and all three DP Merrils are the same price ... $748.00 AUD.

Well wtf.
Those are good prices all around. B&h still has not discounted the dp3m yet. So what is tempting u dp3m or sd1m most? The instant rebate offer at b&h is going to end June 30, so I am going to have to decide something by then...

BUY IT!!
My daughter and In took some shots with a DP3m this morning. It is every bit as sharp as the DP2m.

once you get used to the foveon look it's definitely hard to go back!

At Vistek, they have the 3 p&s's for 799 but no stock for any of them

I can see why Sigma have set up web sales here in OZ. Very few retailers stock their cameras and after a quick search I couldn't find one place that stocked the SD1M.
Australian consumers aren't very adventurous with camera choice IMO and for someone here to choose a Sigma DSLR over an equivalent priced Nikon or Canon would be very rare!

The fact that you can get a DP3M for $748.00 in Oz and only in Oz at the moment apparently, amazes me Lynn!
I'm starting to take more and more photos with my DP2M as I become familiar with the camera's handling and the way the foveon sensor reacts to various situations. Which I can honestly say threw me a bit at first!

Curious, how do these new Merrils compare handling wise to the old DP2/1 (which I loved and hated at the same time)

I spotted this too, an incredible deal, I used to be a Sigma guy, film only now, I'm sorely tempted to go back with this amazing deal...

Gary,
Yes, I have all four now. I sold enough old camera gear to afford it.
Just bought my first Sigma prime lens - the 50mm f/1.4.
So far, Sigma optics seem impressive to me. I don't think I will be buying the big, heavy zooms (120-300mm or 150-500mm). I got a teleconverter instead.
So far, of the four, the DP1m gets the least amount of use.
I don't even mind the workflow that much. Load into Sigma Pro 5, convert to tiffs, and export into Aperture. I just can't wait to get the loupe on those images.

I have been considering a DP2M for a while now. Could anyone tell me what the shutter lag is on these cameras when shooting in manual focus mode? I normally zone focus, so I'm not worried about a slow autofocus, but a long shutter delay would make me crazy.
Also, I have heard the BW shots up to ISO 1600 look good. Can anyone confirm this? I see some examples on the internet, but not too many. Any advice would help.
Thanks,
Jay

Superb price, I used to have a DP-1, don't really have a bad word to say about it. Very simple interface, lovely quality of image, excellent build etc. It's funny how most people see Sigma as a cheap lens maker, but they are easily at the top of the heap in the small camera business in my book.

Sorry, occurs to me I'm off topic with that question. Will post elsewhere.

I don't know about the new models, but my DP-1 was pretty much immediate when it came to shutter lag.

No such thing as off topic if you're asking about a camera with a foveon sensor!
I used my DP2M a couple of weeks ago the way you describe and didn't notice any delay ... but I'm not fanatical about that sort of thing. As for ISO 1600 ... the black and white is very good but for me 400 seems to be the sweet spot.
