Sigma DP3M for $748.00 ..... !!!

Geez ... sent an enquiry today via email and through the contact form on their web site very politely asking if the camera was actually available and had it been despatched yet?

No response which is kind of disappointing.

I've ordered both a DP2M, and recently the AML2 Closeup thingy, they were both delivered promptly, I've been quite impressed by them.

Keith.

You get an email when it is dispatched if you have placed a web order. Usually arrives on the day of the email. Can I suggest you give the Brisbane CR Kennedy guys a call. I have found them very helpful.

Cheers

Perhaps they don't like Queenslanders! 😛

I'm sure it will get here here in a day or so I'm just tired of hanging about the house wondering when? 😱

It's ironic ... when I bought the DP2M from B&H it was here in five days ... which is how long it's been sinced I ordered and paid for the DP3M.

If u don't mind getting it out of Canada, Henrys for example has it at that price..

Tempting. I just got my DP2M used with less than 600 clicks on it, maybe I'll find a similarly disillusioned DP3M owner. I think the 3'sfocal length is more up my alley. (Not that I'm complaining a bit about the 2.)

I'm amazed actually at how infrequently Merrills appear in our classifieds! The older cameras (DP) used to appear quite often.

These days either thru the threads whether here or other sites people should pretty well know what they are getting into these days. Maybe 3 years ago, not so much.

Even w/ all the info out there ... W/ all the research someone does, by the time u get the camera there is still that chance the camera is not for u.

I would suspect the dp2m to be the most likely starter. The other cameras ate going to bought after saying u like the dp2m. So the likely hood of a dp1m or dp3m coming into used market is slimmer unless Keith decides to buy a sd1m 😛

Back in the day, I was so impressed with the DP1 that I bought a DP2. Before getting the DP1 I had already read a lot about its quirks and issues, so I was well prepared. Had Sigma offered a DP3, I would have bought that as well.

Had I not sunk so much cash into other systems at the moment, I'm sure I'd have all three DPxMs now, especially at the current Australian pricing.

The DP3M has just arrived via courier so all is well ... unfortunately they couldn't supply the accessory finder I ordered but that has gone on backorder and should be available in a couple of weeks.

I had to ring their sales dept to get this information as I still hadn't heard from them via email and assumed the finder had been forgotten. To anyone dealing with C R Kennedy I suggest phoning them because they don't seem to be too astute with email. On the phone she was very helpful and apologised for not getting back to me via email when I enquired about the delivery.

While on the phone I couldn't help asking if they have the SD1M in stock ... which they do! 😀

Good to hear it worked out. I got my 50f1.4 last night. 😀.

Sigma does not make small lenses, it is almost twice as big as my Nikon 50f1.4

still waiting for the dp3m price drop in the US. it's usually everywhere else in the world paying more so it's a very weird feeling having to wait for a good price, lol.

i use the sigma 50/1.4 in canon mount, it's a fantastic lens. hmmm, thinking about the killer sigma primes in 35/50/85 makes the sd1m seem even more attractive. not that i'm trying to convince anyone to buy one. oh yeah, congrats on the dp3m arriving, keith. 😀

It was the waiting for the dp3m to go on sale that got me thinking about going the sd1m route next.

I think Eric T has the 50 for his sd1m as well.. Right now I have The 18-200 kit, a 10-20f3.5 plus 50f1.4 and 70f2.8 macro. I am waiting for a used 30f1.4 (new apsc only version) to go on sale or come up on used market next for my sd1m.

Not to get too off topic but the 30/1.4 is also an excellent lens. And now it (and the other excellent sigma primes) has the USB dock option, which lensrentals raves about.

I love this DP3M ... superb camera and currently using the Leitz finder set to 75mm which appears to be incredibly accurate.

A balanced photographer? One who has a Merrill in each hand! 😀

Thanks for posting. In the comment section, someonr put in a plug for iridient as an spp substitute. Cut and past below from the comment.

My first impressions, it lives up to everything you have said about it Ming and I like it very much. I concur that the software is horrid however there is an alternative Iridient developer from Iridient Digital http://www.iridientdigital.com. It does almost everything that ACR does plus a bit more. LAB colour space is included in a different way to Photoshop and it makes sense to utilize the power of LAB at the RAW conversion point. I have been using ACR since version 1 and LAB since PS 3 or 4 so going back to vanilla flavoured RGB does not appeal to me in the least. So far I think that Iridient developer can ready an image to print level except for sizing and cropping its a must for any one considering a DP 1,2 or3. Iridient developer also handles noise very well I have not done a like for like comparison yet but it seems the same or better than ACR. I am going to try some higher ISO shots soon. I mostly work at 100 ISO any how.

Oh yes I meant add Gary ... good alternative software if you use a Mac.

Which I probably never will! 😀
