Sigma DPMs - why would you need all 3?

I would guess they are selling OK, the original DPs did, and the Merrill is a different class in terms of quality. It's obviously not a mainstream camera, it wasn't intended to be, but judging by RFF, they are getting sales.

I think dropping the price was a strategy to make the DPs less of an investment, and so that more people will get on the Sigma bandwagon, a good idea I think.

But back on topic, a DP with a nice ultrawide would be awesome.

Maybe, I used an ultrawide zoom on my Sigma SD15, I didn't find it anymore prone that any other lens, direct sunlight always makes the colours go odd on Foveon, but I didn't find the ultrawide did it more than others, it was a great lens actually.

Sigma seem to have some optics geniuses working there at the moment, the DP2 lens is outstanding, and they have a f1.8 zoom that is getting good reviews. Sigma has always had a poor reputation for glass, unjustified in my opinion.

They have been selling a 10-20, 8-16 and 12-24 for the sd series for a while now.

I have a 10-20f3.5 for my sd1m. The only time so far I noticed an issue was a purple fringing in certain spots of a shot w/ a lot of sky.

Not sure in wides tend to show this issue, but I report back if I spot more of these issues on the 10-20 I have.

Jon mentioned same type of issue in some of his shots, but I can't remember which dp he used.

Mine cleared up when I went into spp and changed white balance to shade since I shot that picture from a shady spot.

I think without a doubt that the DP3M has the best IQ of all the Merrills ... makes my little heart glad that I'll have one in a couple of days! 😀

Agreed, the lens on my DP2M is probably the best I've ever used, it's sharp wide open down to pixel level, and on the Merrill, that's impressive.

So just out of curiosity ... how much was your decision to buy the Merrill influenced by these threads?

Haha, thanks guys. Yeah I've been a lurker for quite some time. This is also the first camera I've purchased since an Olympus PEN EP1 years ago. An odd choice perhaps, but these threads and the beautiful files certainly influenced my decision. Hopefully I can work within the Sigma limitations but I'll have to teach myself a whole new workflow.

Also contemplating which system to invest in for more multipurpose work. Leaning toward the Fuji-X, which I know some of you enjoy!

When you look at the sizes of the current lenses with those specs there's no way you can fit that on the little Merrill body ... and I can't see them making a new compact body to suit when they already have the SD1M.

If they do make a zoom DPM it will be a fairly slow lens IMO.
