I just bought a Canon mount flash Sigma EF 530 DG ST (link). It works fine with Canon camera body but it won’t fire on any other camera (for example Epson R-D1) with a ‘standard’ one pin hot shoe contact or with a wireless flash trigger (PT-04).
Is this normal?
Usually flashes work in manual mode through their center contact pin regardless of the brand or camera or do they?
I'm new to flash photography and I'm kind of clueless with this one.

If it's brand specific it wont fire, it's normal for all new flash. Urban legend is sometime due to difference in trigger voltage it can well fry your camera, I've yet to try that so cant tell for sure
I'd use PC sync just to be safe, if the flash is not for the particular brand
