Sigma SD1m users feedback wanted

If Sigma do decide to upgrade the SD1M with technology from the Quattro they'll need to address some of the issues that afflict the DSLR IMO. The camera totally bricks when it's writing to card and live view would be nice.

The write speed has always been bad w/ the Merrill series cameras. The sd1 was create before the dp Merrill, so I think they may have done some improvements in the digital path on the dp series which is not on the sd1 (just a guess on my part). It would be nice to have live view for sure..

I am looking for faster af speed and better high iso my self. Live view would be an added bonus. If they keep the ir filter design, then u can easily remove it and do ir photo work w/ a 720nm filter for example by using live view to check for true focus.

I can live with the ISO limit no worries! At least with the SD1M they offer some very fast SA mount glass to ease the pain! 😀

Okay, thanks everybody. B&w isn't my thing at all so for me the higher iso are "wasted". I'm certainly no PS hero so that makes it a bit harder. As Lensrentals don't ship outside the US I'm out of luck hiring one. The shop that does rental doesn't do Sigma bodies.

Think I'm going to risk it. I can always pressgang the nex3 that lies gathering dust.

Going to look around a bit for lenses. Unless I start with a M42 adapter I don't have anything that fits it. First step will be to decide to go for zoom or fixed focals.

if u have M42 lenses already, adapter is cheap to try. I got my SD camera initially with mind of using adapted lenses on it, but soon gave up. meter becomes unreliable, so you should know manual exposure perfectly. and, as mentioned above, finder isn't that big and bright. focusing stopped down lens can be a pain.

Have been looking at it. Would suit me fine as now I'm using 21/35/85 (eq). So it would sit nicely around de 35eq. But then there would be at least a more close-up lens needed. Only problem I see then is that that setup is just as heavy as a M645ProTL with 3 lenses.

Got some, nothing spectacular however. But it could be a solution for starting. Lightmeter and using it is covered.

There were guy using two Olympus compacts to document war in Iraq, if I'm not mistaken. Both cameras hung on him and he switched between 'em while one was writing to card and other took picture.
Each SD body could be dedicated to its own lens, also not bad thing. Just more strain on neck and shoulders, I imagine.
