Today's local paper (Hartford Courant) reports that Kodak is closing its local Qualex photo finishing facility, laying off all 81 employees. No reasons given for the closure, but we can surmise it's reduced demand for such services.

More and more films, mostly Kodak and Fuji, are disappearing from the shelves of my local Lab in Jerusalem, and they are NOT being restocked. mike

Either that, or they want to protect the bottom line, so want to cut employees.
Poor Kodak.
When I was a senior in high school (1955), a 94-year-old woman who had an estate up east of town (Morgan Hill, CA) died. Her name was Gertrude Strong Achilles, and she was a daughter of Henry Alva Strong, first president of E. Kodak and the man who helped good ol' George get the company going. Needless to say, all involved eventually became multi-millionaires. Mrs. Achilles supposedly left an estate of some $8 million when she died, and in those days, that was mucho bread. Back at the time, the house she lived in could be seen over half the valley.
How Mrs. Achilles ever happened on a small CA town, and her sister in Hawaii, ought to make an interesting story. Maybe the weather in Rochester was too cold. However, the two of them practically funded the Strong Memorial Hospital at the the Univ. of Rochester.
EK stock must have been worth something in those days. Now?????
