While there can be multiple factors associated with cancers, one specific interest is identifying environmental factors. Each case is different. Cancer mortality rates are affected by SES, and we see a smaller effect on incidence rates for cancer.
We see cancer rates higher in lower income areas, but this may de due to the hesitation to publicly announce high cancer rates in areas where real estate if costly.
Take a look at my article, and you will see that many of the costal areas (where richer people live) are outside the cancer clusters.
If rich people have a water purification system installed in their homes and/or they buy special bottled water that is cleaned by reverse osmosis, there is a smaller chnace to be exposed to radioactive materials in drinking water.
We see more often chemical industries located close to where lower income people live. This can be problematic, as you have seen in Norway. The cancer cluster expert (Martin Kulldorff) whose software I used is from Sweden and he works at Harvard.
