Hi guys

I'm off to Africa on Sunday! I should have gone today, but my flight was cancelled because they found a present from the RAF at Schiphol Airport today , a 500 lb WWII bomb! That partly closed them down.
Anyway, I'll start posting again in November, hopefully with African shots!

Undiscovered World War II bombs have been fairly common in Western Europe for the past 60-odd years, especially around old airfields.

Good luck in Africa.

Hi Jaap,

Hey, take a laptop computer with you. These days you will probably find an internet connection hooked to the side of your Land Rover.

Best wishes for your trip. 🙂

"Hey, Jurgen! What is that thing over there?"
"Gee, Hans. I hadn't noticed it before, but it sure looks like a bomb!"

(It's kinda funny that it took them so long to notice that bomb.) 🙂

Still find 'em in Okinawa quite often. In fact, one of the old military housing areas that was returned to the locals was in the process of being completely 'dozed' so the whole area could be made into a sorta upscale shopping and residential district. The whole project took many years longer than anticipated, however, because it was found that the whole area was pretty heavily populated with unexploded bombs.

What's really funny is that the U.S. military just didn't care if their sailors, soldiers, airmen, and Marines (ooh-rah) lived alongside/on-top-of them. "Toughen them up a little", I guess was the logic!?

I will need your feedback about it, Jaapv. My wife, inspired by the Alexander McCall novels, wants to go to Botswana. Initially I wasn't too crazy, but then she said "think about the photographs" and that kinda sold me to it.

So... We'll be looking forward to reading your stories! 🙂 And have a very nice trip too! 🙂

(last peek at the computer)Solares,I'll PM when I get back, although I going to Kenya just for relaxation this time, I have been all over Africa for over 15 years and in Botswana three times. I might give your wife an even better idea!
thanks for all the good wishes all! 🙂
