I have been offered an M4-P complete with motorwinder for a reasonable sum. Its a bit rough looking but was apparently CLA'd last year. The current owner has never used it, he inherited it, and knows nothing about cameras..
My silly question is if I take the motor winder off will I have to find a new base-plate? if so how hard are these to get?
It looks a bit of a beast with winder on (Ive only seen pictures so far) and would sort of defeat the purpose of have a compact RF.
TIA

Might be an idea to wait for a less expensive M4 variant without the winder. Not much point paying for a winder and not using it.

Aye but - the price he is asking is way below any other M that Ive looked at in the UK. Hes offering it to me cheap as he owes me a favour - if I dont take it he will sell on that auction site...

Yes, you will need a baseplate, and no, they aren't hard to find. But you'll need to factor that into the cost. Someone in the UK/Eire must have one for sale.

Malcolm Taylor in the UK will more than likely have the baseplate you need, should you decide to buy the camera.

Thanks for the info - anyone any idea of what a baseplate would cost? I can get the camera with winder for approx £280 (to be negotiated!), so I need to know the cost to see if I can stretch to it.. or just use it with the winder for now...

mwclassics tend to have the odd baseplate hanging around on there site.

You can sell the winder and more than cover the cost of the cover.

Depending on whether the baseplate is new or used (and the condition the used one is in), the price range would be from about £70.00 up to double that for a new one.

I had a quick look on MW Classics - they have several M2/M3 baseplates at about £35. I have e-mailed them to see if they can get hold of a suitable one.
Thanks everyone for the help..

On reflection, my estimate may have been a bit on the high side! Baseplates seem to start at about £35.00 and go up from there.
