I've used the first version since it was released, it's really nice once you've spent a little time playing around with it.
Looking forward to giving this a try.

Why that? Large amount of new functions never comes for free. I only know free software updates (not smaller patches) when you have a maintenance plan that costs a fixed sum per year.

I bought the previous version but use it less and less because I have some bw-presets for the raw developer that I'm quite happy with.

Really? That's fascinating. Is this for Iridient's RAW Developer? If so, where did you come by the presets, or did you develop them yourself? Can you share any favorite images converted using these presets?
I would love to see them.

The previous version will continue to work just as well as it did before this announcement, the upgrade is optional.

Search for the 15% coupon code. Many sites have one. Brings the total to not much more than Silver Efex Pro new.

I hate the discriminatory pricing policy, which drives people to seek pirated copies.
Why is it that people in the USA can buy it for US$199.95, but when I try to purchase it (online, same website) in Australia, the price is increased to AU$279.95 = US$283.85.

I'd love to hear the reason for that inflated price if Nik Software responds to an email from you.

I'm sure there are added licenses for international distribution.
I hardly think a higher price is an excuse for theft.

That's ridiculous. I'd love to hear their explanation. Do other US SW makers do this? I guess on the flip side, there's that whole "region" thing with DVD and Blu Ray where US gets to pay more than Asian countries for movies...

Added licence payment to whom? Certainly none of that fee is going to the Australian government.
And I agree agree the sentiment behind your statement regarding theft, although I suspect that many would think the company was the guilty party.

Adobe also does this.

For years in Australia books, DVDs and CDs were only distributed through a few regional distributors who as a result controlled prices on behalf of the publishers. And as a result we routinely paid much much more than USA and Europe. I think this has been corrected, or partially corrected in these specific markets (amid much angst from the publishers and distributors who arued that the world is ending) but some software markets a still get to set their own price if you buy a boxed verison from a retailer at least. The same seems to apply in many markets. The Australian $ is at parity or better over the US $ and has been for some considerable time. And yet we routinely are asked to pay much much much more for many products. Isn't it funny how many large companies love capitalism but lobby like hell to avoid competing fairly when they are the ones who have to do it. Having said this Nik products are premium products and one naturally must pay a premium for them. Its just galling when we have to pay a premium ON a premium.

Well said Peter. I'm perfectly happy to pay the same price as my American friends for software delivered by internet download. For boxed hardcopy I expect to pay the shipping differential.

The bottom line in my view is a company can do whatever it wants and I can spend where I like.
I wouldn't support that policy with my wallet either.
It's sure no excuse for theft thought.

If you do any type of photo/video education, you can get a big discount. Even without it, SEP 2 is worth it. I have all of the Nik plugins, but I rarely use any other than SEP.

Well, that explains everything doesn't it?
Are you buying a physical copy, or just paying to download? Download should be the same price shouldn't it?
