Hi !

Although I'm not to fond of filters, I had a look at Silver Effect Pro demo ! I guess it can be very useful to convert COLOR images into a variety of B&W images, but I wonder if it could be of some use with scanned B&W negatives ?

Any idea ?

Oooops ! I think I found the answer myself !

As Silver Effex works with REAL COLORS in a color film, of course, it cannot recognize which color is which in a B&W film... hence it's not able to do the job !

Ohhh well...

Conversions to B&W from colour film tend to suffer in tonality - which is the main point to shoot B&W anyway, so if you can avoid it, it is better... If you want the convenience of a C41 processed B&W, you can try XP2 (expose at half box speed).

Hi, I i use SilverEfex with colour and black and white scans as well as pure digital images. The b+w scans have to be converted to (pseudo)color using (in Photoshop): Image -> Mode -> RGB color before SilverEfex pro will recognise them. The various presets will still work as will control points.

Thanks guys ! I guess it's worth having a trial at this program... as long as I haven't got to spend almost US $200.-... if I end-up not liking the results !

Cheers, and have a excellent New Year !
