Hey all. So I'm trying to scan a negative for a print. I'm making it 13x19 black and white and wanted to max it at 7200 dpi. Everytime I type in 13x19 it defaults to 1.4x0.9. Any reason why? How do I fix this? Please help.

See my other post about understanding dpi and resolution. You have mixed some apples and some oranges here. The software is telling you that what you are asking it to do is impossible. It is unnecessary by a factor of at least 20X.

Thanks a lot. I actually did some research and found out some info on it. What I did was scale it to 100% and made it 7200dpi and scanned it a 4000 pixels wide. Idk if that is ok but I will be checking out your post about understanding dpi and resolution. Can you drop the link in here if you don't mind.

dpi can be thought of as ppi or "pixels per inch".

Basically, you scanner has a maximum resolution of probably around 4000 dpi. That will yeild a file from a 35mm neg of around 6000 pixels wide. The neg is about 1.5 inches wide so it is 1.5 * 4000 dpi or total of about 6000 pixels wide. That is all the pixels you have. Stretch those approximate pixels over the 19" print size and the resolution then becomes around 300 dpi. That is a good resolution to print a 19" wide print.
