Silver lens on a black body?

What are you interested in, taking pictures or making a fashion statement?

I have two M bodies: A black M6ttl .85 and a chrome M7 .58. My lenses are roughly split between blacka and chrome. For me, the issue is that I can glance into my camera bag and always grab the right body and lens because of the mix. Who CARES what someone else thinks about what lens is on which body? I've never, ever, had anyone comment, and wouldn't care if they did! Better to get the right lens on the right body for the job than to worry about what someone else might think about your color coding! I have enough problems doing just this. I wish the M8 came in Titanium, although maybe black paint might do.

I quite like the look of chrome lenses on black bodies - they look somewhat retro to me. In the days of screw-mount Leicas, weren't most lenses only available in nickel/chrome, yet some bodies came in black paint or chrome versions. In my eyes, a chrome 50mm Summicron on a black M7 is just a modern variation of a nickel/chrome 50mm Elmar on a black IIIa.

I'm not that into chrome, I like my cams and lenses black, but I bought both my chrome lenses secondhand. A lens is a lens, whatever finish it has.
I thougt that chrome attracted more attention, but even with a black lens on my black camera people will notice so I decided to stop caring about it.

I'd agree with that! When you're out with an RF and there's a guy shooting in the same place with a stonking great 28-200 zoom on a dSLR, it doesn't matter what colour your lens is 🙂

I guess it's the same as a black Canon SLR body with a white L lens. Looks pretty good too.

I'd agree with Owen, the body color is more important so I know if the camera has color or b&w when I pull it out of the bag. If I found a great deal on a summilux it could be shocking pink for all I care!

The worst is the grey R3a with a chrome lens.. Like black socks with tennis shoes.
It really looks better with a black lens on it.
Makes a big difference to one's self esteem, but not enough for me to take worthwhile photos!
