Silverfast (w/ Optic Film 8100)

Pulled the trigger on this, but am getting mixed results. And by that, I mean different ones all the time after making some tweaks. Changing settings back further changes results. :/ Ultimately, the preview is far different from the end scan (regardless of what I view it in).

I even did a reset of all the settings from the system. I seem to be having problems scanning ProFoto XL 100. I'm using the Pro Image preset for NegaFixer. If I change the NegaFixer presets, the preview changes. The output definitely doesn't match though.

I did some reversal film earlier yesterday and it worked fine. Am I missing a setting?

I found the Silver Fast FAQ< but it seemed a bit out of date. What it suggested (check Gamma, etc.) didn't help me.

I discovered that some of the extra features severely increased the scan time and resulted in mangled images. Turning the extra features off resulted in decent scans in a reasonable amount of time.

Version is 8.0.1 r26

I can't get the problem to repeat itself either. Very irksome... points to some wonky code somewhere. For now though, I guess it's not a big deal.

Some of my scans seem to come in slightly slanted though. Do I need to calibrate? Everything I found when I Googled "Silverfast Calibration" pointed me to the color calibration.

Ive bene using the 8100 for about 12 months with silverfast with mixed results. It always made scanning boring and ive never enjoyed it.
Yesterday i decided to try Vuescan and downloaded the trial (watermarks everything) but did about 10 test scans on B&W films of different types and was getting more reliable scans with more detail and faster. Didnt take me long to decide i liked it more then silverfast.

I dumped silverfast pretty quick for Vuescan, maybe a week in. SF was just horrible to use, Vuescan is easy and fast with great consistent results. And I followed Chris's amazing resources in the link above. Perfect every time.
For slide film which I rarely use, I bought an IT8 target from Wolf Faust for velvia/provia and followed the steps to perfect replications:

In SF, colour was all over the place, basically unusable, but then again, I quickly got frustrated with it so didn't try that hard.

The only thing I can think of is the film and/or holder may not be straight relative to the scanner?

A fair few of mine are off by a few degrees due to this, but I scan the whole area (using an 8100) and crop/rotate in LR later.

think I know that error you are getting, just had the same issue with my Plustek 8100 a few months ago.
It seems, there have been some problems with the Plustek drivers.
After having installed latest drivers, colors are stable now. :-D
You can download actual drivers at Plusteks websites.

I also did some scans in that 48 Bit HDR format, which came out too dark.
According to SilverFast support, those images are saved without the image optimization I adjusted before.
48 Bit HDR is an unchanged RAW format for archives and it is not supposed to have any image or color corrections in it.
Color optimization os done after scanning, based on those RAW files.
