Silvermax longevity

I like what I see on Flickr with this film. I am wondering if I should use the special developer? Problem is I have not developed any film in five years and I want to develop 120 film also. I will have to relearn the muscle memory. I want to try HC110 as my main developer. I think I can see a difference in shots using the Silvermax developer though.

Thanks guys. My ultimate intention for this film is Pt/Pd 8x10 prints, by way of Epson Diginegs. I will print ABW prints first. My wife has serious medical problems that have stopped me from this for the last five years. I have decided to go ahead with my learning curves.

Nice blog Kool. I had already been there in the last few days. My poorly worded root question is should I stick with a developer that will work on all BW films or use the special developer? From this blog, you chose to use D76 so that seems to answer my question.

If you aim at this particular process, perhaps you will prefer somewhat slower films, and a bit more contrasty output. If you will limit your films to 200ISO max, you would probably be best off, for the ease of use, durability, flexibility and tonality, with Rodinal. Otherwise, HC 110 is a great all round option.

Ease of use is a main objective to help with relearning the development process. I like Acros and Plus-X. I have the impression that Rodinal promotes large grain. I picked HC110 for ease of use with one shot developing, but am open to anything that is not to complicated. I like the tonality of Silvermax.
