Simple/narrow strap for Leitz CL

I got myself another CL after not bonding with it a couple years ago. Actually twice. Now it really is third time's the charm and I am loving the small size and light weight.

I love Artisan & Artist ACAM-102 cloth strap (non-adjustable, short) on all of my 2-lug cameras, but CL isn't a really good candidate for this type of strap due to the side-way, wide lugs.

Can someone recommend me a neck strap that is not wide, not padded, and not longish? The cloth strap I mentioned above with flat/no-ring attachement would be perfect but A&A doen't have that. (104 is wide for mainly SLRs) Another important aspect for me is that the strap being very flexible, like the cloth strap. That means all-leather straps are not desirable...

Any inputs would be deeply appreciated.

For mine, I used a thin vinyl strap from a Nikon camera, late '60s/early '70s vintage. Minolta had similar straps for its cameras. These usually came with a wider pad (not particularly comfortable) that the strap slides through. It's still not perfect, since it's almost exactly the same width and thickness as the strap lugs, but works well.

The best small, fabric straps I have came from the original Sony

digital cameras that used the floppy disk. Can't recall the model

number. I found mine in thrift shops for about $2 (with cameras.)

Thanks guys. Ah, thrift shop could be a good source for these kind of traps. Modern ones are too "ergonomically correct" with pads and nice vintage stuff are too stiff leather and probably can't take flat/wide lugs.

Personally, I've used Nikon AN-4B straps for a range of small to mid-sized cameras (QL-17 GIII, Leica IIIg, Nikon SP, ... Nikon F, F2,F3, ... Pany G1*) for quite a number of years. It's reasonably narrow and soft, and has a non-slip inner lining. It can be used fairly long, though I buckle it as short has it goes with most cameras, occasionally trimming it even shorter.

* OK, a slight lie, as my Pany is red I broke out the "rare" maroonish red AN-4 strap that Nikon never retailed, at least in the US. They came bundled with a short run special edition FA and a similar "champaign" titanium F3.

I put split rings on my camera and and spring clips on the strap for quick changes.

Did the same on my Panasonic

This way I could use a wider neck or wrist strap and don't have to spend time removing if not needed

For the CL, I really recommend Mr Zhou's case - that way you can hang it like a normal camera.

I hate the existing format, for one thing you get much worse dings when it falls off your shoulder!

ACAM-305 looked good but the available price was getting close to what I paid for the CL itself :O

I ended up getting 104 which was intended for M5. it has non-slip backing so it is not as flexible/thin as 102 cloth strap, but the length could be shortened quite a bit, and I can do the wrap-around-wrist I always do with 102 (with different wrapping method due to left-side lugs).

Will see if I really like it in use...

I got a simple lomography strap from their website. Simple thin black leather strap, exactly the width of the strap holes. Does me fine and only cost £5.

I use a Lance Strap with string loop ends on my CL.

I had reservations about it at first, but the more I've used it, the more I like it. They can be had in different colors and lengths. They're a bit stiff when new but break in quickly with use and become quite supple. Very comfortable and it doesn't get twisted up. The clip attachments allow you to get it out of the way quickly.

I also fitted a Zhou half case. It's a nice additional grip for the camera. The Lance strap works well with it.

BTW, this is my third CL too. Every time I pick one of these up, I like it more... 🙂

I've used really used Nikon straps, from like an EM or something. Works great.
The last one I used was from an old Nikon Point and shoot.

While waiting for something better to pop up I'm using an old slim nylon strap for my CL.

IMPORTANT: The strap has to be threaded through BOTH lugs and form a loop. This way you can take off the back when changing film and let it dangle still on the strap without fear of dropping it or the camera!

This is the only camera strap that I have used for the last ten years. It is made of cotton web that is practically indestructible - mine are just getting broken in. Priced at $16 U.S., these straps are outstanding and are a fantastic value for the money.
