in reference to this thread... http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25794

I was anxious to see how easy that iPhoto Export plug-in would work on my Mac, but it crashed on both my work setup and my home system.. I figured I was out of luck.. but a quick search showed that the same plug-in was available for Picasa on Windows systems

it's a shame that Mac users have to jump over to the dark side to do creative work, but after I temporarily procured a Windoze system at work, I downloaded the plug-in and tested it with a dozen photos.. it worked like a charm and took maybe 20 seconds to put together an elegantly simple photo gallery

you can find the software HERE

Funny Brett.. I was told that it had nothing to do with processor type or OS yet my download on the MacBook works just fine - both simpleviewer through Safari and iPhoto Export.

maybe it's the version of iPhoto that you're running.. because I'm on OSX 10.3.9 I'm running a pretty old version.. I tried to update that today but it wouldn't let me

Brett,

It works on both my PowerBook and PowerMac (both PCC). The only problem I have had with it is using scanned tif files as the source. Although it generates the jpgs, the viewer doesn't seem to like it.

Is this yet another piece of evidence to how superior PC's are to Macs? 😀

"yet another"? I'm not aware of the first 😀

but seriously, is anyone able to run the iPhoto plug-in on a Mac using OSX 10.3.9 or older?

When you say 'the iPhoto plug-in,' do you mean you've installed SimpleViewer as a plug-in to iPhoto, or are you using the iPhoto Export application we were discussing in the other thread?

And if you're using iPhoto Export, are you using it to export photos from within iPhoto libraries, or from directories of files on your HD?

I've been using it both ways and have had absolutely zero problems... although I'm using 10.4. (Uh, Joe, 10.4 has been out for more than a year now... maybe it's time to bite the bullet...) I've got some 10.3.9 systems at work, and if I get a chance tomorrow I'll try it. Meanwhile, more documentation, please: Which thingie are you trying to run, which way are you running it, and exactly what happens when it goes bad on you?

I can't get it to work with two macs running 10.4.7 but could get it to work with one running 10.4.6

I'm trying the iPhoto Export app.. not a plug-in.. sorry for the confusion.. there is a plug-in for Picasa which I tried successfully on a PC, thus my wrong terminology

I've tried using the Export app both ways.. with iPhoto libraries and with folders on my harddrive.. if I have anything in my iPhoto library it will cause the Export app to crash while opening.. but if I clear out iPhoto, the Export app will load up, but it will always crash while trying to export a folder

up until now I didn't have any reason to upgrade to 10.4.. my programs all worked 100% reliably.. and I'm a firm believer of not fixing computers if they ain't broke
