hi guys

been testin my QL-17 and have them posted here
www.tommyleong.com/QL17_01

random subject matter, more to test focus, sharpness, resolution etc
Actually wanted to sell off the camera but ended up
wanting to buy another QL17...hehehe

could you guys tell me if that much grain is natural with scanning HP5?
is there a way to reduce them or is this "perferred"

Do please forgive this humble interloper from India across the water. I was hoping to persuade a baby sister who lives in Malaysia to help me with some rangefinder stuff. Her older daughter is not much younger than Suzums (fine name), but for me she'll always be a baby. I've just paid a family friend in his 90s for a Leica IIIc and Summitar and should get them in about a month's time. I last saw them in 1981 or so, when both were functioning perfectly although the leatherette had pretty much disintegrated. The lens, I expect, will need no more than the removal of haze and perhaps a bit of fungus. The body will certainly need a CLA and quite possibly new shutter blinds. I shall also want 35 mm and 85/90/100 mm lenses (thread mount, any make), plus a finder or finders. Malaysia is one option: I have friends elsewhere in the world who should be willing to help. I'm only casting my net wide. Any help appreciated. I am strictly a user, no interest in collecting.

Hi Tommy,

I get the same thing from scanning traditional B&W. I could live with the extra grain but to get really good results I suggest you try XP2.

Peter

Peter,

I was trying to scan T-Max 100.

But most of my roll was overexposed because I used flash, and my development was not very well done. So it might be my own roll of film that is bad. But the end result is not very different from Maxim's in terms of grain ... perhaps a tad more so.

But the previous pics of our little breakfast at BK - I also find a bit grainy. Those were on Fuji Superia 200.

Anything I could have done wrong? What are your usual settings for the scanning?

-> Tim.

Hi Tim,

I am using Minolta SD IV. I usually set all the special features like sharpening and grain dissolver off and I scan my XP2 as colour negatives and covert later to grayscale with PS. The traditional B&W will result in more grain in film scanners but you could get rid of the grain with PS.

I'm thinking about a mid afternoon thing on Oct 1 like the last time, say 3pm? So far...

1. Glenn
2. Peter
3. Terence
4. David (to be confirmed)

Hi All
It's increasingly unlikely that I'll be able to make it to S'pore for the 1st. Have a good time!
David

That's too bad David :(

The list for the Oct 1st gathering as of today...

1. Glenn
2. Peter
3. Terence
4. Stephen

Anyone else?

Tim and Ruijie, this seems a good price for a scanner. Buying from a person would save the hassle of buying from an online shop.

Here's an extract;

"2. Film scanner: Minolta Dimage IV. Scans 35mm... wuz a gift to me from my previous room mates, put in 5 rolls and stored it as i shoot mainly LF and 120. Includes Box and everything that came with it. EXCELLENT condition.

Pricing: Scanner: 200$ shipped."

Would have to check about the voltage though. It's definately at least S$200 cheaper than buying from Cathay. Cathay's S$580 certainly looks overpriced compared to overseas prices.

Glen,

I did get mine already - but not from CP. I got it from J3:16 at about $40 less than what CP quoted me for.

Food for thought and more temptation for Ruijie?

I scan HP5+ a lot with my Nikon Coolscan 4000. Yes it is that grainy although the negs doesn't seem so under a loupe (my 50mm lens).

Yours seems to be slightly less grainy than my scans. I expose at 400, develop in DDX (1+9) for 7min @ 28C. What did you do to your negs?

I was contemplating selling off my Canonet QL17 too...maybe to raise money for a CLE.

How I wish I could come and fondle Glenn's new R2, but my daughter is having some fun fair thing at school and I have to be there....*sigh*

Such gatherings are good starting points for GAS though, I still cannot shake off the idea of getting a CLE after fondling Justin's camera.

91 is the last shot on the 1st page, you need to go to
2nd page
Use the right arrow at the top to go to 2nd page :)

Hey guys. Anyone planning to be at the F1 opening race in KL next year?
