Voigtlander agent, Chii Fei, is a nice person to deal with and his service is excellent. You can email him before you come & check if he has stock of what you need and arrange for delivery. His email address & mobile number are in his Website, http://www.chiifcameras.com

I'm one of his many very satisfied customers.:)

Thank you very much. I have bookmarked the page. I will indeed take contact with him next time I come over. Most likely around easter (March) next year.

And Shriro, do they have a sales outlet or a shop in Singapore anymore. Or is it only their main office in Singapore. Has anyone of you been there?

Ha!

To you Singaporeens: I should mention that we have 27 - 28 degrees C here in Oslo tonight and 90% humidity; a rare thing here in Oslo. Rolling Stones has just had a big consert here tonight and many are on their way home. While you have aircondition we have a fire place.... In a few weeks we will lit it up. In october we can expect the first snow...

Keen prices on Zeiss Ikon in August at the Shriro "outlet" in Petaling Jaya- see http://procamera.com.my/store/index.html

XP2 also advertised at prices better than Ruby. Sadly, 35mm shows out of stock

David

David, unless im reading it wrong, the prices seem to be quite a bit higher than Ruby's? the last time i checkd their XP2 prices (when they had it) it was something like RM28 (!!!). even with the pack of 50, they work out to be about RM18 i think...

have you bought from procamera?

Kevin,
Whoops, my arithmetic. You're right of course; Ruby's XP2 still at S$ 5.50 per roll?

I've had an ancient Hassy serviced there, when it was still known as Shriro, but not bought anything. The 35 Biogon price is tempting but I have no money anyway

Am I eliglible ?

Am I eliglible ?

Hi, I am new to RFs having just bought the M8. Having lots of fun (though my wallet is suicidal). Am I eligible for this club even though I am based in Beijing ( I am a Singapore PR though)....

Welcome. We have people from all over the world here in our little corner of cyberspace.

Show us some pictures of Beijing please, especially with your M8!

Nick

Thanks ! Here you go....

Thanks ! Here you go....

Still getting to grips with the M8 (never used a RF before). Anyway, here is the cheaper version of a 7-11 in my neighbourhood. Hand held at 1/11 sec with the ZM 25mm 2.8 at ISO 640. Love it that I can hand hold at this speed !!

your computer screen might not be calibrated to your printer...hence your prints might be coming out rather flat.
you have to try to colour match your prints to your monitor

or a lazy way is to colour boost (contrast/ brightness) your digital images more before printing them out

Leica dealers in Singapore

Leica dealers in Singapore

Aside from Gope Foto and Cathay (which is horribly expensive), does anyone have a decent reliable dealer in Spore for Lieca/Zeiss/CS products ?

Max Photo is the other dealer. Gope is probably the most reasonable. For Cathay, I think it depends, sometimes able to get good price when item on special offer. I don't think Zeiss agent bring in Zeiss ZM lenses but can special order. I managed to order ZM Biogon21f2.8 through John3:16-now waiting for lens to arrive.
If you're talking about CV(not CS), then Chii Fei is the one to call. He is reliable and nice. His website:

Hope this helps:)

I don't agree with you that Cathay Photo is 'horribly expensive'. They keep the typical 'Singapore street price' (which is low, internationally speaking) of popular high volume items like Canon EOS 20D, Nikon Coolpix etc. But then they also have the width of sortiment of photo products beond very few photo shops in Singapore.

I have traded a lot with Cathay Photo, but not at Peninsula Plaza, but Marina Square. I was originally recommended this shop by norwegian expatriats living in Singapore. There is a community of about 1000 norwegians living in Singpapore. We europeans are not used to this agressive sales pitch so typical for many photo shops in Singapore. At the same time we don't want to miss out on the good offers. Then Cathay Photo at Marina Bay is the right place. There is a guy there called Sam Jeva that most norwegians do business with. With him you get the 'best street price' in the city on these high volume items without any fuzz and quarelings.

Sam Jeva told me that ex. indonesian president Habibi was among his customers and had a large collection of a la carte Leicas. Mostly MPs that he had bougth at Cathay Photo. Sam told me that despite Habibi's millionair status, he was very 'pricy' about prices and very up-to-date with what everything in the Leica cathalogue costs on an international arena. A right out tough customer.

I have recommended Sam Jeva to many norwegians on a norwegian photo site. - This shows how strong a media Internet is. Litterally bus-loads of norwegian students on their way to and fro studies in Australia have marched through Cathay Photo at Marina Square and asked for Sam Jeva. To shop in Singapore and save the 25% norwegian sales tax is very favorable for students on a limited budget, you can imagine. Like this flock of giggling & blond norwegian girls chasing into the shop asking for, the rather middle aged, Sam Jeva. We have had a lot of fun with that.

Cathay Photo is a Leica dealer. - A good one at such. That means that they don't have Voigtländer items. They started importing Epson RD-1 more or less on my insistance. That said, they are very competetive on Leica items and sell them cheaper than you can buy them tax free at Frankfurt Airport. How that is possible one can wonder. Cathay Photo are among the few Leica dealers around that has all these small items that you need; lense caps, sun shades, flash cables, you name it. The guys behind the counter, not only Sam Jeva I am sure, are well educated in all these nuts and bolts of the photo business.

Yes, Cathay Photo is something I can recommend.

Sam Jeva is a good guy. Nonetheless, whenever one is dealing with Cathay, it's always good practice, after they give you a price quote, give the salesperson with a knowing look and a little twinkle in the eye and ask, "Now, but what is the REAL price?"

In relation to Cathay, I have as yet to find them competitive. This is based on about 10 years experience of comparing prices between Cathay and other reputable dealers. They have consistently been more expensive. However, they do stock hard to get items but I find that less and less relevant given the internet. Anyway, I didnt but my M8 from them as they were easily S$800-1000 more expensive than the other Leica dealers. I had the same experience with my Canon gear.

Indeed: It is always like this in Singapore, - and to a growing extent here in Europe.

When I go to Singapore, which I do once a year, I go there with a flock of family members that fans out into the city to shop all kinds of stuff. What we do first is to check prises and compare. Just to check what the street prices are for certain products. Then we have placed a large order with Cathay Photo/Sam Jeva and have done a very good deals altogether. We get it all on the same bill, - which is more efficient since we then get more of the Singapore sales tax returned. Sam always seem to be just as well informed about these streetprices and what they include - or not, so there is not much haggling.

Where did you buy your M8?

Gope Foto

Gope Foto

Yes, I must admit I havent dealt with Sam or the Marina Square shop. Only the Peninsula Plaza one. I have been told that you need to have a good relationship with Cathay prior to getting the better deals which obviously you have ! I like Gope Foto, they are very knowledgeable, patient and are not too aggressive.

One interesting point that they pointed out was dealing with WB. FOr Asia, the shop recommended setting the WB to shadow and stop the EV by one-third to get better flesh tones. Is that your experience ? I havent tried it yet but will do so.
