I am not sure how many folks caught this on the internet. The author makes some good points. And I also like his comment about M9's.

You must enjoy it very, very much to have read it so often. Wonderful for you. I doubt few are so fortunate.

Camera companies release new cameras with more mexapixels and people write articles about why they don't need to upgrade their camera because they already have enough megapixels. Have you not seen these articles? You must enjoy it very, very much to have read it so often. Wonderful for you. I doubt few are so fortunate.

Pff. Size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it that counts. I mean cameras of course.

I am still very happy with pictures my EOS 10D produces. I don't plan to upgrade until it brakes completely. My old phone has twice the resolution of the EOS but still I prefer the pictures from the DSLR.

The author's conclusions about sensor resolution in the OPs link about sensors are completely incompatible with Information Theory.
On possibility is the foundations of digital information theory are incorrect. This implies all the advances in digital communication since the 1960s must be attributed to an amazing string of good luck.
The other possibility Information Theory does describe the impact of resolution on image content and the author does not understand, or chooses to ignore, the role of resolution plays in limiting information content.

I am quite impressed at the results I get from the RX100 series 1" sensor (+24-70 eq). Surpasses the EM5 and on some scenes it has a "bite" and almost a larger format look to it. Considering that goes into the pocket.
Phone wise, it's a lot of computational photography but the fine detail I find lacking, although I haven't had a try on the top end latest gen models (2018 to now)
