Size of an 85mm mask for a Kiev?

I have a bid in on an 85mm finder and am watching others, but they're all longer term auctions at the moment and there's no guarantee they'll go for a price I can afford.

So, I got to thinking about the earlier Zeiss method of a mask over the viewfinder window. Does anyone here own one of the various gizmos that fit over the window? If so, could you tell me what the size of the opening is for the 85mm and how far away from the window it is positioned? I'd probably fab a prototype in cardboard and do some test shots to see if it really would work and then, if it does, make one out of light black plastic.

Every week or so an FSU 85mm finder is listed on ebay. There aren't a lot of them, but they seem to more common than the FSU 35mm finders.

How about an universal finder? The viewfinder eye hole for the 85mm finder is pretty small. I can't see the universal finder being much different to use, just bigger.
 
Oh, I've got both an FSU 85 and a couple of turrets on my watch list. I'm just curious if I can be workably cheap about it is all. I eventually want a Zeiss 427 finder like Honu-Hugger showed us in the coffee thread, but for the meantime, I want to play this way.

Besides that new 35/2.5 and meter trashed my toy budget :D

This is relatively simple to do;

obtain some rigid clear plastic,..enoough to make two pieces,..one to cover v/f front lens and one 25mmx36mm to cover film gate,...this piece make lightly opaque by rubbing flat on mild 'wet and dry' paper then tape in film gate to form viewing screen. Place camera on tripod/support,....tape smaller piece plastic over v/f ,....set on 'B' and look at image on 'screen',...using felt pen, mark position of image on v/f 'lens',......this is the method I used. Also useful to check all your v/f's as you will find considerable inaccuracies in many!
 
wlewissiii, the size of the mask for 85 mm lens is approximately 11mm by 18mm, and is approximately 25mm in front of the viewfinder. These measurements are taken from a ZI 544/7 combination 85/135 finder made for the Contax III.
