Saw the movie 'Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow' on the telly last night. It was a bit cheesy, but there was nothing better to watch (go figure). But what do you guess? There comes intrepid newspaper reporter Polly Perkins, and she carries a camera that made me think, 'hey that's an Argus'.. Anyone else notice?

I happen to have a 6' cardboard Polly Perkins in my study.

yes, except she's got a special hollywood model that has a built in flash and giant top mounted frame counter (that counts backwards, no less) in place of the cold shoe 😛

Yeah and the flash is a very bright one like a commercial Prophoto strobe head.

Was this Argus known prior to Sky Captain? It solves the face obscuring trait of standard configuration cameras. We see more of Gwynneth.

Yes, I am pretty sure this is the famous Gwynneth-non-face-obscuring model C3. AKA the Argus GNFO. And those Leica guys thought they had all the fun with obscure variations.
