I have been informed that there have been complaints made about me - I have used profanity and have slandered another RFF member, apparently. I do not think I can 'keep the tape on' indefinitely, because that is not essentially who I am. Sooner or later, I'll curse. Or I'll tell say something snarky that will make someone upset with me. Or I'll hijack someone's pet thread. And the moderators will get hammered with complaints about me. They don't need that, and frankly, neither do I.

I am who I am. I wish 'who I am' was more compatible with what RFF has become, but it isn't. I have no complaints about RFF - I never have. I wish RFF nothing but the best.

So this is Member #6 signing off. I said I'd never make a big announcement, but I guess in the end I felt the need to say goodbye.

To those I've insulted, offended, hurt, or otherwise abused, I meant every word. Not that I intended to cause hurt feelings; but rather that most things I say are heartfelt and honest from my point of view.

I am considering a formal complaint against you - for not being your usual snarky self. As some others have said, I look forward to your posts, not because they are controversial, but because they almost always get to the heart of the matter and set some real perspective around sometimes fuzzy and fairly meaningless threads. IMHO its your directness that some people find irksome - me I like it (it has got me into lots of trouble in the past) - I prefer people to be straight and honest. People who don't beat about the bush. So don't let a few detractors push you away. Having strong opinions will always result in some polarisation of views, but I'd rather have that than everyone publicly nodding in agreement whilst privately plotting muder.

Take it easy.

Slow slide film still wins the resolution wars, as do films for DR and high-ISO. However, in many cases, digital is good enough. Horses for courses.

I mostly agree, but as always there is a BUT 🙂

Slow slide film may win the resolution wars for projecting and digital projection is far from what can be had with slides. OTOH, if you need your pictures printed the resolution depends on the the money available for scanning. A 1st class drumscan should be better than a current DSLR, a dedicated slide scanner in the 4000dpi range may be better than a 10MPixel dSLR but I doubt it is better than a 12 or 16Mpixel dSLR.
The DR of C-41 film is without doubt better than what dSLRs deliver today although reports from Leica DMR users indicate that the DMR is better than slide film and other small format dSLRs in DR.

High ISO is another thing, in colour it ends with ISO400 for slides and ISO800 for C-41 for my purposes. Fujipress 1600 is much too grainy for my liking and it is very critical to expose, I don't think it has a DR over 7 or 8 stops. I haven't seen slide film over ISO400 but I've been told they can be pushed one or two stops in specialized labs, which is expensive.

So one advantage of a digital sensor is that it combines low grain with colour and higher ISO with enough pixels at a reasonable price.

The high ISO, low grain, huge DR colour film has not been invented yet.

We have low ISO, low DR, highest resolution slide, medium ISO high DR print and highest ISO, huge DR B/W.

So the dSLR is the king of mediocrity, it does all reasonably good but doesn't stand out anywhere 🙂

I've often wondered about the spelling of "whoosies."

I won't go into other spellings I've seen because it leads to etymological discourse on the origins of the term as a coloquial description of (please read this clinically) genitalia of a specific gender and specific use of the term as an insult for a member of the gender that does not possess same parts.

I can't disagree with any of what you said.
I think part of the problem is that many people can't accept (or see) that digital and film are completely different animals. Yes, they use similar (familiar) equipment, but how you go about dealing with the light at the film/sensor isn't always the same.
