Slide photos with 35 Ultron

I bought some expired Kodak Elitechrome 400 slide film and here is couple of frames from the roll. I'm not sure if the expsure is wrong or is the film just crap but it seems to clip both shadows and highlights. I like the colors though.

2 possibilities, the dmax of your scanner is not high enough or the slide has a very narrow latitude.

3rd possibility.

The film is expired - depending on what conditions it was stored in, that could affect the contrast range.

It does look like you are using it in pretty contrasty conditions. Most slide films have a relatively short latitude and this behaviour would not be unexpected.
