Slotted Leica battery cover?!

I bought a used Leica MP from KEH.com about 3 years ago. Just last week I noticed that I have a different battery cover on it than all other MPs I see on the internet. The one I have is a grooved/slotted battery cover (the kind you can put a coin into to open). All other MPs on the internet have a circular material covering with no slot. This material is the same as the skin of the body.

I think the slotted cover comes from the days of the M6.
Are there places I can buy an original MP battery cover?

Original new MP cameras, as mine, came with two battery covers in the package. You might try Don Goldberg or other repair person to see if they have the other one available.

You can get them new from any Leica dealer (e.g., Tony Rose at Popflash has both versions in stock.) It's a good idea to carry an extra one (or at least have one around) since they can come unscrewed and get lost (although it's not happened to me.... yet.) imho, the non-slotted version looks better on the camera and it's just as easy take on and off as the slotted version.

Unless the batteries swell or leak. I'd prefer a slotted one given the chance

So for 3 years you've been perfectly happy with your camera, and now? You have a cover, it works, is it worth it to track down a different one?

thanks for the replies. i'll get in touch with the dealers and try to find another one. the one i have is totally satisfactory but i've really scratched it up trying to undo it with a screwdriver that was too small. i should have used a coin. either way, i was thinking that i should have an extra one around in case i lose this one. i've already lost my 100 dollar leica -2 diopter because it came loose.

i wonder if its a good idea to put a little grease on the threads of these screw-in items so they hold better. in bicycle maintenance, all screws should be lightly greased to ensure they hold better and don't rattle loose.
