Nothing too serious. I was just wondering what are the SLR equivalents of some RF classic cameras...

For me (because I'm a Zuikoholic...):

Leica M2 = OM-1: a true mechanical classic. Small and quiet. Indestructible.

Leica M7 = OM-4Ti: electronic with all the bells and whistles.

Contax III = Nikon F2 (with metered prism): big and bulky, but sturdy and a real pro camera of its age.

C'mon guys, what d'ya think ?

I must be alone on this forum, but I never understood why folks consider OM an "SLR Leica". All OMs I tried are on tinny side and do not evoke much of M Leica feel.

Maybe I'm just too picky though, didn't find much Leica M feel in Leicaflex either 🙂

I find myself appreciating the old Minolta MC and early MD Rokkor optics quite a bit. The way they render is similar to my eye as some of the old German glass such as the 50 Summarit and Elmars. The MC 58/1.2 draws similarly to a Sonnar to my eye. It is a jumbo size can of soup size wise, but the image quality impresses me.

The nearest SLR I've ever used to a screw Leica is a Pentax SV.

And a Nikon F pretty much is a Nikon S, with a built-in mirror box.

Contax? Probably a Graflex Super D...

Cheers,

R.
