I'm looking for a film camera that can date stamp my photos on the visible part of the frame. I prefer a manual focus/mechanical shutter SLR, but I realize my options may be limited so I'm flexible. I'd use the Olympus Recordata back 3 or 4 on my OM-1, but unfortunately these only go up to the year 2009. I suppose I could use a point-and-shoot 35mm of some sort if I can't find a decent film camera for this, but I need something (I loathe plastic electronic cameras of any sort!). This is to make photos for an endeavor related to government imposed regulations so it has to be right.

Any suggestions out there would be much appreciated!

David...
Nikon made a fairly simple Databack MF-12 that went with the FM/FE models and the FA too...
It's good up to 2100...I have one mounted on a FE with a MD-12 too...
Look it up here www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/photography.htm

I've had this one several years but have yet to actually use it...:D
I just popped a new set of batteries in it and it lit up just fine...it will display...
Year...10
Month/Day...3 14

10 3 14

Or

Day...14

For Pentax, refer to http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/misc/backs/index.html

" Data Backs

Data backs were used on analog bodies for imprinting date, time or other information on the film during exposure.

* The Data Back F (for SFXn/SF1n and SFX/SF1) and Data Back Fb (for all SF-series bodies) imprint date and time information in the following formats: year/month/day, month/day/year, day/month/year, day/hour/minute, AM-PM/hour/minute, blank.
* The Data Back Fc (for Z-10/PZ-10), Data Back Fd-1 (for Z-1/PZ-1), Data Back Fd-P1 (for Z-1p/PZ-1p), and Data Back Fe (for all other Z-/PZ-series bodies) offer the following operation modes: blank, month/day/year, day/month/year, year/month/day, day/hour/minute.
* The Data Back Fg (for ZX-10/MZ-10, MZ-5/ZX-5, MZ-3, ZX-5n, MZ-7/ZX-7), Data Back Fi (for ZX-50/MZ-50), and Data Back Fj (for ZX-M/MZ-M) have the following operation modes: blank, month/day/year, day/month/year, year/month/day, day/hour/minute.
* The Data LX (for LX) and Data MX (for the specially modified MX Data body) imprint an analog-clock image with hour, minute, and second hands in orange with black background.
* The Data MD (for K2 DMD) uses four SR44 batteries, and offers adjustable brightness for ISO 64-400 film. It imprints an analog-clock image with hour, minute, and second hands in orange with black background.
* The Dial Data LX (for LX), Dial Data ME (for ME and ME Super), and Dial Data MX (for MX) feature three dials that record: year/f-stop, month/alphabet/shutter_speed, date/number. There are settings are for three film speed settings, and for color or B/W film.
* The Digital Data M (for ME-F, SuperA/SuperProgram, ProgramA/ProgramPlus, and MG) imprints year/month/day, hour/day, or hour/minute. It can be connected to the ME Super with the help of the Digital Data cord M.
* The Interval Data Back F (for all SF-series cameras) imprints date and time information in the following formats: year/month/day, day/hour/minute, AM-PM/hour/minute, 6-digit random number, letter 2-digit counter, blank. It also offers interval shooting with the following parameters: start time, interval length, frame number, time exposure, pre-charge signal of an external flash. "

There have been versions of most recent Nikon AF-SLRs with date function:
F65D, F75D, F80D, F80S (can print exposure info as well)..

Pentax MZ-3 and ZX-5n generally came with the data back, so has the option of imprinting Day/Hour/Minute or Month/Day/Year in various combinations. I have just got out my MZ-3 after not using it for a while, so thanks to this thread I've refreshed my memory on how to avoid having that annoying date stamp appear! And I couldn't figure out how to manually set the ISO, so while I was in the manual I looked that up too. Whew, this digitial interface stuff is tough!

Edit: Wow, Chris, you hit the mother lode of date back info! :)

Many Ricoh SLR's from XR/KR series take XR Data back.
Bad news they have electronic shutters, good news they are cheap enough. Have not compared what comes out cheaper - Ricoh or Pentax, Ricoh being not so widespread though plenty of them this days are floating around underestimated.

N8008s with MF-20 databack, and SB-29 macro-light.
