Hi Guys

I'm looking for a nice, small bag for my rangefinder... I normally have my MP/35mm, 28mm, 50mm and the CLE/40mm as backup with me! Of course some films and filers too...

What do you think of these bags?

I'm not willing to spend money for a Billingham or Banana Republic... I prefer to spend my hard earned money on films, chemicals and paper ;)

Hi,
That bag looks pretty nice and im half tempted! Not sure how long one would last though, they cant be too well put together for that price.
How about a Domke? I hear they do good small bags for quite cheap (i've not used one though...)

I had a look at the Domke bags... the nice ones are quite expensive too, around 130-240 US$, thats to much for my small budget ,)

How about buying a second hand military type canvas bag and sewing some dividers or padding inside?
I think i saw a thread on this forum about doing just that.
That's got to be a cheap option, and fairly stealthy looking also! Plus you would hope military canvas is hard wearing.

good idea... I saw some complete inserts from Domke, which would be a good option!

but I guess, that the "selfmade" bag would cost me all in all more then 89.00 US$... I really like the look of the other bag, the belts need to be black (waterproof liner), then it's fine...
Of course, the quality can't be "perfect", but for that prices, I will give it a try...

Check out the Naneu Pro Lima - I have had one for several years, holds up well and will hold the kit you are thinking of carrying. Oh, and they are only about $40!

I was at B&H recently and browsed through the bags. I was impressed with the Mountainsmith bags, they look like good quality and reasonable prices. I have a Domke that I like, I think it's the fx3-b that costs around $100, but if I were to look for a new bag, I would consider the Mountainsmiths and Crumpler Million Dollar series among my choices.

I have the version of that bag without the straps. Has been holding up fine for the few months I've been using it. I usually carry a Bessa-R w/J8, Holga, Vivitar wide&slim, film, scissors, a notebook and fountain pen. The cell phone and wallet often worm their way in there as well.
Compact, comfortable and only 1/3 the price of an A&A bag. It's got my vote!

Check the domke's again. For what you're carrying, I think an F-6 bag would be a good size. Priced at under $70 @ b&h... I have one that I use mostly for a small slr/dlsr setup, great bag, not too pricey. More than some of the other bags mentioned above, but less than the 130-240 you'd priced for domkes before.
(FWIW, I use a domke 803 satchel for my M gear usually- i've had the bag for about 15 years, still going strong)

I first bought the Domke 803, then the Naneu Pro Lima because I just wasn't finding the Domke very comfortable or smooth to use. Seemed to fiddlely to me.

I don't like to always wear the camera around the neck, but want to be able to pull it out quickly. I could never get the hang of doing that with my Domke. It turned out to be much easier with the Lima bag. I like that bag a lot, and it wraps around the waist nicely depending on how much you stuff it.

Just recently I got the Bare Bones Bag, and I think I'm really going to like that for what it is, a "shooters" bag. Very light, nice and trim, and really hugs the waist nicely. It also folds flat, very flat. So I can easily see packing it into a suitcase for a long trip, and using the Lima with it's additional padding while on the trip, then at the destination, pull out just what I need and use the BBB bag. However, to be fair, I *just* got the BBB, so I need to experiment with it some. So far, though, I'm really liking it.

There are some pretty lengthy threads on here about the BBB, the Naneu Pro Lima, and of course the Domke bags.

I remember reading somewhere that when pros got together to discuss gear, inevitably the subject would center on bags. The quest continues . . .

I have all of the bags and my favorite is the cheapy National Geographic Bag. B&H used to carry them. I think one size up from their smallest size is perfect: small, extremely light weight, but durable and holds it all.

I would only consider Domke -- they have bags ranging from $59 (US) F-5xb and up. Very well made and dont shout camera bag. I use the Domke small RF satchel costing me $89. The strap goes completely underneath the bag so Im not worried about my MP/Noct falling out the bottom.

Don't knock the Billingham. I brought one (Hadley)21 years ago. Carried my M6s and enough lenses to take on any job anywhere in the world untill I had to go digital. Now carries an D3 a D300 five lenses and an sb800.
Yes well travelled , Very dirty outside,BUT doesn't shout at foreign airports or stations" Hey guys here's 30k for you to come take" and its still as strong without any problems unstiching or rips as the day I got it.

I would go for Domke or Billingham even secondhand... (that is what I did, for my 2nd Billingham, the first one is already 12 years old and looks a charm...) Some can be found on the bay, for reasonnable prices, and considering the quality of both, they will last you years... if this is what you want...
some exemples currently on sales:
Billingham Hadley
item 250439952949
Domke F1x
Item 360159147450
Domke F6
Item 140311612100

do you carry all that gear all the time?
if so, then the domke f6 is my recommendation.
if not, then the domke 5xb is about the best bag for 2 bodies with lenses attached plus another lens plus...

that bag you listed looks great but i wonder how easy it is to work out of and if it is too stiff and will sit often up over time?
