Small fanny pack/sling bag for M9 with attached lens?

A fanny pack would get too heavy with an M9 and hang uncomfortably low. I recommend the Domke 5Xb in nylon. I changed the strapp on mine to a neoprene type and its super light and strong. I usually wear it cross chest, but it also works on the shoulder or on a belt.

Returning the Moment sling as well. The materials are just not reflective of the price tag. The zippers are already snagging and do not inspire confidence.

The Domke F8 is a fabulous little bag. I also have the 5X but prefer this bag for side-pockets which really work great for wallet, passport type stuff. The F8 (waterproof one) hugs the torso well, and swings into position quickly and effectively like a sling. i love this little bag!

This is what I have been using lately. Filson small field bag with an Ape padded insert.

Allen,

I have had the Filson Small Field Bag for over 20 years. I placed a piece of thick foam covered by an old large cotton sock in the bottom and is works nicely. My son is currently carrying the bag with a Nikon D800 and small zoom.

Filson Bags hail from Seattle and are beautifully made!

And if you're not a fan of pockets (like me) have a look at the Domke the F5XA.

I've used this Slow Tools bag for several years. It's about the size of the Filson but is softer and weighs about 1/4 as much. I have either a Leica M4 or a Rolleiflex in it. You could add a liner if you wanted, but i use a Domke wrap sometimes. I had a friend from Japan get it for me in Osaka.

I go to carryology.com for my bag recommendations.

I don't frequent that site much, but great suggestion! Here's their recent "best sling" run down. The Aer Day Sling 2 that I mentioned upthread gets a nod, but lots of other sling/bags I'd never heard of as well:

Something to keep in mind is which side carry the bag is designed for when wearing cross-body. Like some messenger bags, some are designed for cross-body wear on the left shoulder only. Personally, I prefer wearing on the right shoulder, so I look for "ambidextrous" bag designs.

Thanks for the additional suggestions. The Aer Day Sling 2 looks closest to what I'm looing for although the main pocket looks too thin.

Not really interested in the Domke/Filson/Army Surplus style bags.

Just ordered a simple Adidas fanny pack of approximately the right size. Wanted one big main compartment with a zipper that opens wide with no overhangs or anything to impede taking the camera in and out. Will see how that goes.

Congrats!
I just came back to the thread to recommend a nice new gasmask bag via ebay. Very discreet 🙂

That one looks good.

I bought and returned a plain Adidas one. I might be giving up.

I've been doing some research and I found the Lowepro HP 120M sling. Luckily Jessops has it on sale so I've ordered it, looks perfect for an M plus it's a little padded. Going off of the dimensions it seems like the Peak Design 5L sling (which I have and am a fan of) but shallower and slimmer, plus the top opens up completely to help with getting a camera out:

I have the Lowepro trekker mentioned by lcpr, it’s the right size for a body and lens. I carry a Nikon S2 with 50mm in it. I loop it over a shoulder rather than as a belt bag. It's fairly well built, but I absolutely detest the clasp... it is difficult to find the thin loop to close the bag, and the clasp dangles oddy when it is not closed.

I’m loving my fjallraven ulvo large fanny pack. Extremely comfortable on the waist or across the shoulder. It looks odd in photos but works really well.

Highly recommend the Peak Design Everyday Sling (5L).

Perfect for my Nikon SP 2005, and you can configure it to securely store an extra lens if needed.
