Small sensor for available light?

Thanks Matus, that's good to know, even for me, as a non-subscriber. :)
Went to the thread on the review on dpreview and it seems he's not too happy with the OVF.

Yes I think so, too.
And as a plus, it's nearly 200€ cheaper, than the X10 and 150€, compard to the GRD IV.

Think I'm going to order one by next week and give it a try.
Richard Franiec's grip is going to be must though..

As someone who has both the X10 and the GRD III I can say the following: The X10 is not much bigger than the GRD III - it's about the same length (maybe a mm or two longer); it's a bit taller (by about 1/2 a cm maybe) and it's "thicker" due to the lens and other components.

The X10 is not as pocketable but then again, it depends on how/where you carry your camera. The X10 in JPG kicks the butt out of the GRD III at ISO 1600 and above. You can turn the noise reduction down on the X10 so that the high ISO images don't appear "mushy" or "soft".

So far, between the two of them I would say the X10 is edging out the GRD III (or GRD IV for that matter) in the areas of image quality, High ISO, functionality and the fact that there is a zoom that's reasonably fast on the camera. Where the GRD will win is in ergonomics (I have yet to find a camera in this size that matches the GRD in this category), size, and "ease of use".

Cheers,
Dave

Dave,

thanks a lot, for that comparison!
I think I'll have to find a X10 in a shop nearby, as I was expecting it to be quite a lot bigger.
I know the GRD size very well, so I have a better feeling for the sive of the X10 now.

Oliver,
The only way you're going to know what's right for you is by, as you said, going into a shop and seeing/feeling/holding the camera for yourself :)

I wasn't even remotely interested in the X10 although I had read some threads here and there on it - but once I was in the store and held it, and saw the functionality, I was practically sold on it. I mulled it over lunch and by days end I had it in my hands.

Cheers,
Dave

Coat / Jacket pocket is where I want to carry it, so I really have to check it out in RL.

Depends, of course, on the pocket.

Shirt/suit jacket pocket? Nope.. the X10 won't fit - the GRD will but will still be "bulky".

Jeans pocket? Well, I'm not going to put any camera into a jeans pocket - that's just me :)

Jacket/Windbreaker pocket? I can put both the GRD and the X10 into that pocket without issue. But, like I said, it depends on the size of the pocket :)

Cheers,
Dave

I understand you're looking for a zoom. Otherwise, my vote would also be for a GRDIV. I wouldn't say it's useable at 3200 (probably 1600) but the f1.9 lens, IS, and hybrid AF really make it a great pocketeable camera for available light.

Yes I know, that makes the decision harder and I'm really interested to see the Hybrid AF, but I would like to cover as much as I can, with this camera.

pocketability

pocketability

FWIW, I am going with a S95 and X100 for an upcoming trip, leaving my Canon dslr at home.
