Smart or not, I just bought a "new" R-D1

After selling off two R-D1's that I owned earlier in the year, I have just bought another one.

Frustrations with film scanning, the recognition that some of my best Euro street photos were taken with an R-D1, the realization that the Nikon D3 is a MONSTER of a camera and totally too HUGE for me to ever be happy with, and (my well known, in some circles) utter disappointment in the M8 all contributed to this decision.

Will probably fetch a ZI 18mm lens now to have a ~28mm lens to use.

I own a R-D1 a couple of days - and do not miss the M8 which I have used several times before. That is a really nice camera and will do its work besides my M6. Have fun with it - and don't sell it again 😉 - except if Voigtlander-Zeiss-Cosina one day would continue production ... 😎

Understand your reasons Dave - most of the shots i was happiest with came from the RD1 and not film. Congratulations on your new acquisition.

If you're frustrated by film scanning, then I guess you don't want to buy another Hexar RF, so that I can get an R-D1...

If I had just a little more time and money, I'd be tempted to cram the digital parts of a Canon 5D into (on to?) the Hexar RF.

Welcome back-I keep trying film but the scanning is the Achilles heel for me and the RD-1 just performs so well.I just wish the used ones would drop in price so I could have 2!

I have two. One is a security blanket and sits unused in the camera closet. It's a beauty. Love that camera. Here's a shot I took of my wife and grandson in B&W yesterday. I still shoot film, because I like the cameras and I like the IDEA of film. But I really love my R-D1

I got the ZM 4/18 Distagon just last week. On the R-D1 it is very close to the FOV provided by the inside of the brightlines on a normal CV 25mm VF.

Seems like a great lens... Since my widest lens before this was a 25mm Biogon, it makes a perfect fit. Eventually need to get a VF for film use.

I have thought seriously now and then an M8 would replace my RD-1. But with the cost, and the fact I'm just plan happy with this camera I keep coming up with 'why bother?'
