I just got one from eBay but I'm not sure whether I should exert effort to put light seals on it..I've seen pictures of Symbols with their back open and I never seem to see any light seals there..

Do you think I should or is it good to go even without them?

Stupid question, I know, but someone's gotta ask it right?:D

Also, what are the common areas where light leaks? Just so I know where to look first.

Thanks, and I hope to hear from you guys soon.

I would be tempted just to pop a film in it for a test.
If you do, shoot a couple of frames with the lens covered, so that any marks on those frames (think of light getting in whilst on the spool, so run a few consequtive blank frames) can be attributed to body leaks rather than lens malfunctions.

Dave...

I've never had any problems with light leaks on my smena however due to the nature of these cameras they can differ greatly between individual cameras.

if you put any effort into it I would put it toward flocking all the interior shiny surfaces. These cameras can be a lot of fun and decent photo takers.
