I really wanted to get closer when the flames were high but I was a big wussy. Exploding tires and batterys scare me. Unfortunatly I left the 90mm upstairs but at least the UC Hexanon 35/2 was nice and sharp!

Wonderful shot... Another reason why rule number one is to always bring your camera.
Its amazing just how hot a car fire can get! I've driven by two. One was in a parking lot that was set back away from the road by grass and sidewalk. I drove by and I could still feel the heat. There was another next to a merging lane on a elevated highway I was on. Remembering the parking lot fire, I sped by as quickly as possible.... felt like the interior of my car could melt.

Thanks for the comments. I really wish I had my 90/4 with me but oh well. I was still happy with the above shot.

This reminds me of when my Mercury Mountaineer (Ford Explorer clone) decided to burst into flame last year. Yup, if you own a Mountaineer or Explorer and received a recall notice last summer/fall, I was one of the lucky ones who started that process. 🙁 Friggin' cruise control switches....
Fortunately, it was in a parking garage and nobody was hurt. Unfortunately, it took the vehicles on each side with it (oops!). I will never forget the smell of electrical components smoldering along with the molten metal and plastic.
