Any idea what these smudges are? Shot on XP2. The first half of the roll was shot one day, with no sign of the marks, and the second half was shot a day later, and this is where the marks start to show up, first only in small spots, and then huge smudges further into the roll/day?

Day One, start of the roll:

Day two early:

Day two late:

Thanks for any input.

This is only a guess... Could it be from condensation on the film that was still in the cassette? It would make sense that the more tightly wound film near the end of the cassette would touch in more places and hold more moisture than parts of the film that were less tightly wound. The moisture could come from high humidity, or from taking the camera from a cool environment (air conditioning?) into warm air. This guess and eight dollars (USD) will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks

I was thinking condensation on the film too, but I would have thought it would dry out in a few hours, as the shots with the marks were taken a day after the film was loaded. The lenses are fine as far as I can tell.

If it was processed on a dip-and-dunk machine possibly the film touched for a while. I'd have a look at the surface of the affected negs, like minoltist suggests. It looks too well defined and too irregular to be anything camera related, especially as the negs will be slightly thinner in the affected areas, and definitely not like any light-leak symptom I have seen.

Checked the negs and the spots are clearly visible, being thinner as you suggested Martin.

Minoltist, do you know if it is ok to use a wetting agent on XP2? I guess film is film in the end, so I would think it ok.
